I'm wondering, have others experienced an increase in colds and upper respiratory infections while on long term abx??
I took doxycycline for almost a year. About a month ago, my LLMD switched me to Ceftin.
It seems like in the last 6 months, I've seen an increase in the number of colds and coughs.
Bam! Then 2 weeks ago I got hit hard with a bad case of bronchitis (while on Ceftin). I've yet to get rid of it and I'm so weak I can hardly move.
My LLMD told me to back off the Ceftin until we got the bronchitis under control.
My local GP prescribed an abx called Avelox (I'd never heard of it). I had such a bad reaction (I think it was a herx) to it that I only took 2 days of it.
Back to the doctor tomorrow. I'm guessing he'll prescribe something else.
So has anybody else experienced this? I keep wondering if the long term abx isn't totally wreaking havoc on my immune system. But then, what else can we do??!!
thanks everyone!

i had same experience when i started Ceftin. i have been on it for almost 2 months. the first 4-5 weeks were horrible with respitory symptoms
thought it strange since i was on abx. dont know if it is related ceftin or not?! or...
i have had issues with chronic sinus issues and cough, drainage, etc. even wondered if it was killing off bugs and a herx????

Yes, I've had the same experience. Been on Doxy and Zithro for a couple months now and I've had a head cold for over 2 weeks now that I can't shake.
Saw the LLMD this morning, need to work on strenghening my immune system. Goign to add 1000mg a day of Vitamin C plus a supplement called Host Defense.
In the meantime, he is keeping me on the same meds until my immune system is a bit stronger, which stinks because I'm not getting any better with the Lyme, either.
