Presently I'm being treated for acne, and as a result, have been on 200 mg of Doryx for about a year or a tad longer. I was telling someone on this site, that I could purchase my usual prescription of a 30 day supply under my insurance, and pay the ridiculous price for an additional 30. That way, I could virtually treat myself, in order to catch this early [if it is lyme].

What I'd like to know, is whether someone who has taken/or is taking the higher dosage of Doryx, do you experience major problems with digestion. And if so, what is done for it? Of course I'll probably end up seeing a LLMD, if in fact the side effects are overwhelming. Bear in mind, I'm only thinking of doing all of this, if my tests come back from IGENEX positive for lyme.

Anyone?

Hi Craig,

If your are having GI problems its probably stemming from yeast overgrowth. Take acidophilus 2 hours after your abx and this should help with any GI problems. Or if your having nausia, eat a few hours before taking your abx then 2 hours later take probiotics.

Are you having any increase in symptoms being on the Doryx right now? And were you on abx at the time of your WB from Igenex?

Lisi

You say you've been on Doryx for a year and have had symptoms for 2 months.

Did you have a tick bite? I would think that being on Doryx might have been protective. If bite - perhaps co-infection?

If no bite, I'd think yeast. Have you been taking good probiotics while on the Doryx?

A couple of notes,

If you where on doxy when you got biten, your tests will most likley come back as negative... This is a problem with slow growing infections. Treat to early and the tests come back negative, test to late and treatment becomes harder.

Doxy can be tough to take as I am sure youhave found out. It all depends how you increase4 the dose. If you do it all in one dosage then it has a real good chance of being harder on the stomach. If you increase the average serum level by more frequent dosages then it should be about the same as you see now.

With the higher dose you WILL be more suspectable to the sun.

With lyme infection while 200 mg TAKING doxy I would think you are at pretty low risk of actually having developed an infection??? I really don't know if increasing the dose would be needed because....

I guess the real answer is to look at the batericidal serums levels and see if they can be reached with 200 mg. I suspect that that it can and if so, since the bacteria would have little time to get in to the harder to reach tissue the 200 mg might have saved your bacon....

PS -
Isn't tetra cycline the normal achne drug due to doxy's well known problem of GI upset? Just interested why they switched to doxy??
