Has anyone experienced an odd burning sensation on their tongue and roof of their mouth? I've had this sensation on/off for over a month and it is driving me crazy. Makes the nausea sensation I always have in my throat even worse than usual.
My tongue looks normal but certainly doesn't feel normal. I'm on Biaxin/Plaquenil and am unsure whether it is Lyme, medication.....
Thanks!

No, no red lips. Middle of tongue (where it is the most sensitive) is slightly red.
Hmmm, never showed any signs of anemia in the past but who knows, with this disease I suppose things can change. I appreciate your thinking 'outside the box'.
For some reason I'm thinking it could be the biaxin but who knows....

probably yeast. increase probiotics get diflucan you probably have systemic yeast.
other thing can be is if you eat very hot foods especially pizza you can burn your palate very easily and tongue.
takes couple weeks to heal, can go all the way down to the esophagus.
any other itchings of redness on your body????

I'm not having this happen right now, but in my earlier treatment, I do recall this happening. It felt like I must have eatten hot food, but I really hadn't.
It's interesting that it could be yeast, since I know I was battling that so many times off and on, even sticking with the lyme diet. But Doc Dave sounds on a good track and I too would step up the probiotics.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I've had this for many years, and for me it is digestion related. Things that help: avoid eating fruit (other sugars are OK for me), take probiotics in enteric coated capsules (non-enteric don't help), algin/pepsin capsules such as Solaray Comfree, and anything that encourages gut motility.

Does it feel like you burnt your tongue? But will NOT go away? I showed this to my LLMD and he said it was Glossitis (sp?)and the taste buds actually get inflammed and on very close examination you can see these tiny white bumps. He told me it can be caused by a lack of Folic Acid (which is also called Folate) When I started adding extra Folic Acid to my daily "pill regiman" the burnt tongue sensation did go away.

Mention this to your LLMD.
Are you on Probiotics/Acidophillus? Ask your LLMD for recommendations on what & how much.
MY 1st LLMD never mentioned Probiotics & I had a similar problem. Turned out to be Thrush. Felt like tounge burn.

KS, I had this - terrible, by the way, my sympathies - for about 3 months before I was ever diagnosed LD or treated with anything. Fortunately, it was one of my first physical symptoms to be relieved. Sorry, I don't know your treatment history, etc. ABX resolved this within a few weeks for me.
Every now and then I get a little hint of it again - enough to remind me how much I hated it and how glad I am it's gone.

Oh, forgot one other thing. Besides the Folic Acid supplementation, I also switched to Rembrant Extra Gentle toothpaste. read about this on another website. It apparently is one of the very few toothpastes on the market that does not contain a certain chemical that can cause sores. The Rembrant extra gentll actually says right on the tube that it is good for canker sores. Even though that is not what was wrong with my tongue....it DID help.
