I think AIDS and Lyme fall into the same class of disease as they both weaken the immune system. Lyme lowers CD-57 and HIV lowers CD-4.

There is anecdotal evidence that a certain herbal protocol actually turned HIV positive patients into HIV negative.

Here's the link. It's an interesting read.

anamed

Here's the recipe:

Summary of Natural ways in which the immune system of AIDS patients can be increased.

(For more details, see Chapter 6 of the anamed book ``AIDS and Natural Medicine'' by Hirt, Lindsey and Balagizi.)

We recommend that patients use 3 of the following:

1.Garlic, Allium sativum, eat at least 3 cloves each day of raw garlic.

2.Artemisia annua. For the first month, drink 1 litre of tea using 5 grams of dried leaves each day. Thereafter, for one week in every month, drink this amount of tea.

3.Neem, Azadirachta indica. Take one to two heaped teaspoonfuls of dried neem leaf powder each week.

4.Lemon Grass, Cymbopogon citratus. Drink two litres of tea, using one handful of fresh leaves for each litre, each day.

5.Aloe vera. Drink one to two tablespoonfuls of gel each day. This gel may be mixed with an equal quantity of honey.

6.Lemon (Citrus limon). Drink the juice of one lemon each day.

7.Moringa oleifera. Make moringa leaf powder, and add one heaped teaspoonful to the food three times a day, every day of your life.

Hi Blossom:

They are two totally different diseases. That being said, SOME of the herbs the article mentioned for AIDS Might work for Lyme and its coinfections.

Artemisia annua is recommended for Babs.

Some say Garlic works, others say it does not, for Lyme.

If you want a good protocol for Lyme and it's coinfections, check out the Healing Lyme, Naturally, book by Stephen Harrod Buhner.

His protocols have worked for many of us in arresting Lyme disease.

Hi JimBob

I'm definitely interested in starting Buhner. I have browsed through the book but I'm not sure where to start, and I'm currently on another herbal protocol.

How long did the Buhner herbs take to get you better?

Can you take the Buhner herbs for an extended time (years)? Will it have any effect on your liver/kidneys? Do you need to have your liver enzymes checked periodically?

I'm all for Buhner herbs - I just need that push to get me started. I think a lot of people have apprenhension to do anything that is unsupervised by an MD or ND.

Blossom, thanks for the info on Moringa.

Do you take it yourself? Where do you buy it?

Are you a long term user of it?

I just read in Wikipedia, many are the parts of the plant that has medicinal use, including bark, flower. ARe leaves particularly interesting?

All the others, I know and took/ take often, only moringa is new to me! (neem and aloe are not good for me, though, somehow I can't digest these stuff well, don't ask me why).

Thanks for any info .

Selma

Hi Selma:

I do not take the leaf form of Moringa.
However I do occasionally cook using the Moringa "bean".

I do not know a source for Moringa leaves, but I can usually find the fresh beans at the Indian market (or frozen packets in the winter). At the market you'd have to ask for "Indian drumsticks".

Well, Blossom, when my duck wouldn't give me any abx for my Lyme two years ago, and I was half dead in his office; I could hardly hold my head up and felt I would die soon.

I came home here, went on the internet and discovered LymeNet, and saw the advertisement for Amazon.com to the left of the posts, and they had the Healing Lyme book on at that moment. I ordered it and the rest is history.

I started VERY slowly on his CORE protocol as my stomach was in bad shape. I also took Sarsaparilla, and Devil's Claw in addition to the Andro, Resveratrol and Cat's CLaw.

I had the normal arthritic symptoms, terrible neural and vision problems when I started.

I could have cared less IF I had an LLMD or ND, as I figured I was gonna die anyway, and felt so bad, I almost wanted to.

Well, let me tell you, it wasn't more than two days after taking the Devil's Claw that my vision and brain fog really improved. Other symptoms got better after a few days of taking the other herbs at very low doses.

Devils Claw gave me a lot of gas, especially in the beginning, but it was so good at what it did, that I toughed it out, and just made sure I didn't take any late at night; as I have an ileostomy and can't afford to have a lot of gas when I am sleeping.

I was amazed at what was happening to me with the herbs. So I added some abx, but things took a downturn, so after two months of the abx with the herbs, I quit the abx and have been on herbs ever since. It will be two years since I started them on Novmeber 25th.

I will probably ALWAYS take SOME herbs, now that I know how much they help us. Especially when we get older.

I will probably always take the Sarsaparilla, Devil's Claw and maybe Milk THistle and/or Red Root tincture.

IF you do it right, you shouldn't have any trouble with your liver, etc..

My duck said I HAD to have my liver checked because I was taking all the herbs. He thought my liver would be destroyed. Well the tests came back EXCELLENT on all accounts. My only test that wasn't perfect was my cholesterol, as i don't eat properly. BUt even that wasn't near as bad as it used to be.

Red Root tincture will take good care of your liver AND the REST of you Lymph system. Milk Thistle capsules are good too. Read about the Red Root in Buhner's book.

I am no expert on herbs, but I do know that they work, from my two years experience with them.

I was at about 30 to 40% of normal when I started the herbal protocol, and now I am in the 90% to sometimes even 95% of normal, MOST days.

Big, big improvemtn from before I started on the herbs.

Buhner worked with Herbal practitioners when he was forming the book. He didn't just grab all his info out of his own head. The practitioners DID treat Lyme disease with herbs.

You can't just dabble with the herbs though. You have to get serious with them, and with Buhner's book. He also has a good CD set out there now.

Hope this helps some. You can do a search on LymeNet also for much on BUhner's herbs from our past posts.

Blossom, thanks for the info.

And I guess Jim is right, the herbs from Buhner are the most indicated for lyme (at least, there are many people on these herbs with good results, I myself, Jim another, but many others having good results for lyme specifically).

I just like to know more about other herbs, for my 'general' knowledge. Thanks for the info, I'll check it next time I go to an Indian shop!

Jim:
Seeing herbal medicine success stories makes me feel hopeful, as this may be my only option in the future.

So far I'm 3.5 months into treatment on doxy. While I did have a 3 week stretch last month without symptoms, they have all come back. These days I have unrelenting chest pain and crushing fatigue - I feel like I'm back to square one.

I have an LLMD appt in a couple of days, where they might switch my abx since there is a stalemate with the doxy. I really feel that whatever they prescribe, I will probably only tolerate a half dose and achieve stalemate again.

For this reason, I will give the abx another 3 or 4 months, at which point I will probably phase in Buhner and phase out abx.
