I began my abx treatment 18 days ago. Starting with 1 Doxy & 2 Nystatin/ day and worked up to 4 Doxy & 6 Nystatin/ day.
This is my 7th day at the 4 Doxy & 6 Nystatin/ day level.
Taking 1 Theralac/ day for my probiotic and 1TBL of Bentonite Magma twice a day as my detoxin.
No change in symptoms and no herx.
My LLMD is DR. C and he has instructed me to stop Doxy at the end of 30 days if I see no change and go to Ceftin for the next 30 day trial.
My IGenex Lab test was negative but Dr. C felt that with it's "irregularities" and our discussion, that I do have Lyme.
I am 74 years young and have had Lyme for approx 19 yrs.(Dr C and my clinical opinion) How comfortable are you with a "Clinical" diagnoses?
From reading this site the last 3 weeks I have the feeling I am the "old lady" on the block.
I would like very much to hear from anyone who fits or is familiar with my profile: 70+ years old, long term Lyme and Dr. C patient.
Do you feel recovery is seriously limited by age and time with Lyme?
If you would like to PM I would especially like that.
I'm trying very hard to be upbeat about this adventure but as you all know it's hard some days to be optimistic. (could be an age thing)
Thank you
Rose

hi rose,
you got buried on the bottom of the front page, so bringing you up again.
may i suggest you edit and add more to your subject line:
i'm 70; here's my treatment plan, and want to PM with other 70ish folks!
to edit, click the PENCIL/PAPER ICON to right of your nicknmame. that opens up subject line and body text. when done, click edit send.
now, they know it's about your meds list and also wanting to pm with 70s folks.
cave, 76, was here until recently when she was banned; long story; don't go there.
i believe you are too or at least for the moment! good luck!

Rose, you're in good hands. Dr. C is just one of the best there is!!
I sure don't think age is a limiting factor. We have more than a few 70-somethings on here. Maybe they'll pipe in. It probably WOULD help as Betty suggested if you edited your subject line by clicking that little pencil-looking thingie and adding that to your subject line...
A "clinical" diagnosis means Dr. C saw something on your IGeneX tests suspicious for lyme infection. The test doesn't have to read "positive" to show lyme infection, y'know! Have a gander at the explanation of the western blot posted above at the top of this forum. Often the appearance of certain bands in your western blot -- while not enough to make it positive per se -- will arouse a WHOLE LOTTA suspicion in a doctor's mind.
Hop on here frequently and tell us how you're feelin, okay? Don't be a stranger!! Lyme can be very isolating! 'Specially cause to others, you generally look like you're "okay." Even though you might feel like doggie-doo warmed over.
Best wishes to you. Keep posting!!!
Hugs,
Michelle

Hi,
I am not 70 or even near it. However, I just wanted to comment that I do not think that ONE Theralac a day is near enough to protect your intestines. It is best to take a variety of probiotics, daily, and in larger amounts than bottle says when on antibiotics.
Most of here are long-term Lymies.

Welcome, Rose!! I'm also a patient of Dr C's. He really knows his stuff. I was clinically dxd as well. I was off abx for almost 3 yrs until a recent serious sinus infection has made me return to them...ugh.
DLL..Theralac is way more powerful than other probiotics. The recommended dosage is like two pills a week or something like that.
I take 1 or 2 a day now that I'm back on abx.

I also take Theralac and after an initial few weeks of higher dosage I now take one a day and it has kept the yeast at bay!

Howdy...you do have company as I am 70+ also. I recently met a woman, 85, who was being treated for lyme. Old age ain't for sissies to begin with, and adding lyme to the mix just makes old age (young age) more of a challenge.
Your doctor is very well regarded, so you are in good hands. I, too, was negative on the first Western Blot so was diagnosed clinically. After two years I switched doctors and had another Western Blot done and it lit up nearly all the bands.
Hang in there....maybe you will have more of a response with the Ceftin. I first got a tick bite in '94 and again in '97. In 2000 I finally got diagnosed. Have stopped antibiotics two or three times and have done well for 8 or nine months, only to have the symptoms start sneaking back on me.
Maybe younger folks make out better...but at least I do pretty much what I want though I still seem to require my daily nap....but then, two year olds do, too!

Hi, Rose -
I don't fit into your category, but........
I noticed that you are taking a bentonite product every day. I have real concerns about that and, while I don't want to scare you, let me just point out a few things and you can make up your own mind.
Based on personal experience ONLY, I believe that I may have severely damaged my colon by ingesting bentonite every day for 30 days back in the early 80s.
Bentonite is amazing in what it can absorb and get rid of. But the trick with bentonite is to make sure that it ALL comes out. If not, it literally can coat your GI tract, collecting toxins, bacteria, and prohibit proper assimilation of digested food.
The only way I would use a bentonite product is if I were juice fasting, taking additional fiber like psyllium, and doing enemas 2-3 times per day (like the Sonne's cleanse).
Bear in mind that they use bentonite to seal man-made reservoirs and around well casings because it sets up just like concrete. So, be sure you know what you are doing when taking it.
Sorry if this seemed like a negative post! I'm certainly not against cleansing programs and all kinds of supplemental detox methods. I just think there are safer products than bentonite.
