I don't know how else to describe it, but I have not found this same phenonemon posted here -- and -- I don't know if this is a symptom of Lyme Disease or not.

I'm currently infected, having been bitten by a darn tick this past June. Finally found an LLMD who will keep me on board, but!

Leg 'worms'. Does anyone else get the sensation at night of worms crawling under their skin in their legs? Or -- is this something else entirely?

Before the unfortunate encounter with a tick, did I have Leg Worms? No. But, are they connected?

I could use the term "leg worms" to describe my neuropathy. Sometimes it's leg burn, sometime leg itch and sometimes leg worms.

So, it could be lyme (or co's).

Try Epsom Salt bath and let me know if it helps. I think it helps me (2 cups epsom salts, 1 bath water, soak 20 mins).

Hi Breeze,

You bet this can be a symptom of lyme.

Hopefully you will find a good LLMD and get yourself tested for co infections as well as lyme. Bartonella is famous for "creepy crawly" sensation..

Here are a few posts that may answer some questions...

I am sure that you will find many more using the "search" feature.

Hi Welcome!
I once started a thread at another forum asking people to tell their strangest symptoms. I cannot tell you all of the strange sensations this disease causes. Some said they felt as if bugs were crawling on them, one said he had the feeling of a snake crawling on him, another water dripping sensations with electrical shocks that followed.

I personally in the beginning remember the feeling of something loose in me, like a mouse. Which later turned into widespread nerve pain. Feelings of bugs, worms, etc., are all caused by the nerves. Very bizarre sensations are "normal" for LD unfortunately. Reading others LD stories can help you feel not so strange. Check out the "stories" link at the site below for some VERY interesting stories and symptoms.

I am so sorry to say welcome to the club.

Take care.

I have this sensation. That, and also just achey legs quite often. I also call it RLS because that's what it feels like to me as well.

Thank you all!

Lymebytes -- you in particular.

With the knowledge of knowing one has Lyme Disease, it opens up a whole new world.

I was fortunate (hardy, har-har) --extremely high fever during the summer for one who is never sick! Followed by an unusual bull's eye rash. (I live in the woods -- lots of deer). But, who knew? Not I, evidently.

I am not the same person I was five months ago.

Tired? I was never tired. I'm now exhausted by mid-afternoon. Heart giving extra beats? What's up with that?

Hungry? Food was something to keep one alive, but I never felt hungry. Now my stomache growls all the time with 'feed me'! I'm skinny -- but the pounds are piling on.

Doctors? The first one was great! Made me feel wonderful! "The bad news is 'you have Lyme Disease' -- the good news is '3 weeks of Doxycycline and you'll be cured'.

Not so.

Infectious Disease Doctor? I just witnessed one (the one I saw) testify before the PA House of Representatives. He told me to STOP taking the Doxycycline.

I didn't listen....but........there is still something very wrong going on here.

I've said in a couple other posts that I get "vibrations" in my arms, leg and back - I think something similar to your "worm" feeling for sure.

You mentioned being hungry - I'm starving all the time lately since starting Doxy (3 weeks now). I thought it was just me.

Wake up at 4am with the growling stomach, ready for a big meal!

I'm a normal weight but did gain a couple pounds the last few weeks. Watching that.

I guess others experience this as well?

Neuropathy... worms, pain, charlie horses, burn, weakness in legs.Mine comes and goes in cycles. I have babs... No joint pain just this painful leg thing. Seems to be one of the last remaining symptoms. I've tried many different things (magnesium injects, b12, baths, stretching) I think it just won't get better until the babs is all gone. It's quite annoying though... just when I think it's gone it comes back.

I have Lyme, Babesosis and Bartonolla. I also have pain in my legs at night.

I was told that bab's can thicken your blood - which in turn causes circulatory problems resulting in internal leg pain as we experience at night. Why legs- they have the biggest and most amount of circulation in your body.

Get tested for co-infections as I did after 7 years.

I also take an aspirin daily to reduce symptoms and some nights take motroin.

I also find stretching very, very helpful. I lay in bed, or on the floor on my back- and with my leg straight use a belt pull my leg toward my body on and off for about 5 minutes. This greatly helps the pain as it reduces muscle pressure on your legs.

Take care

Yes, I have had that symptom too! Feels like bugs crawling on or just under your skin. Totally uncomfortable and creepy!

This is better but has not totally gone away for me after 15 months on abx and antimicrobials. It certainly hasn't gotten any worse, and other symptoms have gotten much better. Keep treating!

Yes Breeze, we think alike - I've always called mine 'worms'. This was one of my first symptoms. They were huge sensations - from my hip to my knee, from my knee to my ankles, over and over - often accompanied by another of my greatest hits, the large and small jerks!

It was definitely worse after I laid down to rest or sleep, but it could happen at any time. It was not RLS but I certainly think it is a related phenomena.

Anyway - I've been taking 400 mgs doxy daily for 10 mos. I would say I NEVER have huge worms or jerks anymore. Now they are confined to a much smaller area - like, just around the knee or elbow or ankle or hip joint, just in a small area of my sides, etc - as well as being much less intense (smaller-more like Meg's 'vibrations') AND much, much, much, much less frequent. SO ----as above ---- keep treating.
