I have been treated for lyme and myco coinfection for about 5 months now. As follows:

July - Cats Claw 375mg - 3x a day

August - Minocycline 100mg 3x; Cats Claw 375mg 3x

September - IV Rocephin 2G/day; Mino 3x; Cats 2x

October - IV Rocephin 2G every other day; Mino
2x day; Cats 2x

November - IV Rocephin 2G 2days on 1 day off;
Doxy 100mg 4x day; Cats Claw 375mg 4x a days.

In addition I have been taking milk thistle for liver, gall bladder medicine, and other supplements.

Anyway, there has been 25-50% improvement in the neurological symptoms, and most other symptoms have improved as well. I had a really bad herx about a week ago with major flareup of everything. We then switched to Doxy (400mg a day) from the Mino (200mg a day). Also still on the Rocephin and Cats Claw. Every since the change to Doxy I can barely get out of bed, on the flip side my pain is improved greatly.

Here is my question: Over the past few days I am extremely fatigued. I have been in bed for 5 days straight, the sole reason is the extreme fatigue. I have always managed to push through the other symptoms, but I can't get through the fatigue right now.

Has anyone experienced this extreme fatigue following a herx? Or is it more likely that the fatigue is being caused by the switch to Doxycycline? Is there anything to do to get over it quicker ?

Does this increased level of fatigue indicated anything positive/negative going on ?

Thanks

Any time I switch meds around I get that crushing fatigue.

I would say it's probably the doxy reaching different bugs than you've treated so far. Sounds like a herx.

You should feel somewhat better after each herx ... so I view them as a positive. [Smile]

Try drinking some lemon water to see if that helps. Epsom salt baths also make me feel a bit better. There's really not much you can do but ride it out.

Extreme fatigue is how I herx.

When I had my month IV,

MY PERSPECTIVE was that I was feeling better. (less confusion, less lousy feeling, less nausia, less circular thoughts (OCD?) less irritation and despiration.

Icould hardly move, but knew it was killing stuff and was content. I give myself permission was content to sleep and sleep and watch TV.

MY HUSBANDS PERSPECTIVE was that I was much sicker on the IV because I was not the person he knew. all I did was sleep and rest. I didn't find out till later that he was super worried about me.

All this to say that extreme fatigue is how I herx.

Same thing when I started Mepron. On the forth day I literally didn't move.

Fatigue is a symptom of Lyme. Therefore a herx can involve fatigue....and it's logical to assume that it could be severe.

Keep in mind that babesia is still a possibility. I found the extreme fatigue to be mostly from my babesia.

Also... Maybe you're on your monthly herx? Do you keep a journal of symptoms so you know when that is coming up?

Yup, could be herxing. And Antibiotics attacking different germs.

Lemon juice can help: Does it clear cells of debris? Some say Nanotek chitosan helps a lot. For me, it didn't. Cholestyramine: some report success. I haven't yet tried it. These are for the neurotoxin issue.

Fish oil (with no mercury) and magnesium malate help everything, for example, fatigue. But it takes a few months to begin working for fatigue.

I took New Chapter cordyceps and it helped my fatigue! (But not the liquid as it contains alcohol and could be very bad when combined with flagyl--see the pharmacy information. It also comes in a capsule.)

Also: machine weightlifting! Wonderful! Very much helped my fatigue! Aerobic excersize saps energy, unless it's a short walk. I know you've been in bed, lately.

I'm sorry you are so tired.

Maybe also just the whole recovery thing that our bodies go through and it just takes time and right now you need to be in bed.

Also, can you sleep? What helped me a lot to sleep--deep--and wake up feeling better with more energy because I reached such deep sleep is Fatigued To Fantastic Revitalizing Sleep Formula by Enzymatic Therapy.

Your body could also be weakened by all the treatment. You could have adrenal fatigue or a problem with your autonomic nervous system. Chronic illness does a lot to our bodies.

Have you ever considered Myers Cocktails? They are IVs of magnesium, calcium, b vitamins and vitamin C. I get them along with a glutathione push to help jump start my system.

I have had fatigue from Lyme/Babesia and with a herx, the worst fatigue I had was right after I started treatment and then from Plaquenil. I spent days/weeks..etc... in bed sleeping.

Glad you are having some improvement, hang in there. [Wink]

My herxes have been mostly that extreme overwhelming fatigue.

I find it helps some to take a green drink in the afternoon.

Hang in there.
