Does anyone take milk thistle with Mepron? I was thinking about starting it every other day. I got my doc's approval but then found this. Will talk to my doctor more about it. Thanks. Found this on several sites after googling "mepron + milk thistle".
"Milk thistle also has the potential to lower levels of the following drugs:

So I did a search on lymenet and found several discussions about mepron and milk thistle. So, I guess, I'm wondering if anyone takes the milk thistle even though it has the potential to lower the effects of Mepron.
My worry (among others) is the overload on my liver, since I have had symptoms for two decades and started experiencing herxing on day one of meds.
I'm a newbie, don't know where to begin with detox. I've listed on paper well over 20 detox suggestions found here and on other sites, but don't know where to start. Doing the supplements and probiotics and strict no sugar diet.
Any Help Appreciated. Thanks Again.

this site is very helpful...we understand and are HERE for you...for eachother
My LLMD advised me to still take Milk Thistle even though of this caution...
he said that protecting my liver was of great importance...not that killing BABS wasn't..
and would take the risk...I took M.T. as far away from my Mepron doses as possible...once a day....
I definantly herxed on Mepron/Zith...it really hit me when I added Alinia for a week during the full moon...
I've seen improvments while on this combo...but Bart has shown it's face...so now I'm adjusting my protocol to that...
who knows if I did weaken Mepron's killing power...???? I feel glad though I protected my liver...couldn't of done it without it - I feel...
others might disagree...
good question about the herbs...I dunno...wondering myself...never really found a good answer...
I know androgrpahis increases the potency of anything you take at the same time as it...(read that in Bhuners book)....
I think the herbs should be taken away from anti's...thats just me...hard to find a clear answer on this.. I'm no expert...
drugdigest.com ( I think that's it) shows interactions...but lots of Bhuners herbs aren't on there...can't remember if the ones you stated are..check it out..
As far as detox-
-Epsom Salt baths -saunas (sweat) -Daily Detox tea (or some detox tea) -chlorella -lots of water (lemon water is good to) -castor oil packs on the liver has helped me -rebounder or other mild exercise (as much as you can) -Alpha Lipoic Acid and NAC are good
theres lots more as you said...for me I try and do these daily with exception of castor oil packs...at least once a week or more if feeling extra toxic..
acupunture and massage weekly (if affordable) have been a LIFE SAVOR for me!!!
glad to hear you're being strict about your diet...GOOD JOB! smile!
Welcome again, and best to you...
much love~ Fawne

Thanks for the suggestions. I will look into the Alpha Lipoic Acid and NAC, detox tea, and castor oil packs - hadn't read about those yet. I'm going to make an appointment with my acupuncturist. Thanksgiving was hard with all the sweets and such, but I stayed on my diet!!!
Thanks for the welcome. Marcelle

I had a horrific experience taking milk thistle with Azithromycin, Mepron and Effexor-XR.
I know others have had problems with milk thistle interactions as well.
If you search (under post A Reply) for "Milk Thistle Mepron" and select the option to include ALL words, you'll come up with warnings from myself & others.
I too was concerned for my liver, even though I had no previous problems. My liver was fine without it. I have taken 4 courses of Mepron with no liver problems.
Mepron is a very expensive medication & it tastes repulsive. I wouldn't want to do anything that might make me have to take more of it to fight the Babesia.
You also need to take Mepron with a fatty meal. (about 24 gms, I believe) In a pinch, two tablespoons of nut butter or even regular butter or oil will do.
I had no appetite at all with the Babesiosis & the thought of eating repulsed me. I often crammed two Tbsp of one of the above fats onto a slice of bread or toast, or ate 2 Tbsp Marie's creamy salad dressing on a small salad, just to get the Mepron in.
I also found it easier to get the medication out of the dose cup by filling to 1 tsp with water & then pouring the Mepron into the center up to 2 tsp & then "shooting" it down my throat.
Since the Mepron is not water soluable it would float & come right out, if I didn't do this it got stuck in the cup & was really hard to get out.
If you are thinking of doing this, I would definitely clear it with the LLMD first to see if your liver problems would require it. If so, LLMD may want to change the dose.
I certainly would not do it unless absolutely necessary.
That's just my opinion, I'm not a Dr.
Good luck in your Quest for wellness!

I was just checking out info on the Castor oil packs. It sounds really interesting.
I think I'll post a thread asking about them.
Thanks for the info.

My LLMD did not want me taking milk thistle with the Mepron.
I've had really good results from coffee enemas (cleans the liver, take chlorella or another binder when you do them), epsom salt baths (good for pain), and drinking lemon water (takes away that toxic feeling/taste).
Also, parsley and burbur tinctures have been a miracle with herx symptoms! I just wish I had discovered them months ago!!
I also drink Yogi detox tea and lots of water.
