Hi everyone,

I bought a probiotic today called Primadophilus Reuteri Pearls. It is put out by Natures Way.
I am on antibiotics, 2 years so far, so I need a good one.

I have never used this probiotic before so thought I would try it, the lady at the store said it was quite good.

I normally use other probiotics, but thought I would try this one now. They are SO tiny.

Has anyone had good or bad results with it. I did a search and 1 person used it, that is all.

Anyone else use it?
I will continue to take my homemade yogurt and this probiotic this month, see howI do with these Pearls.

thanks,

Trish

Up up UP*)!!*)! So someone who has used it can give their input- I can just rumble around Pubmed and look at ingredients-

It has the same lactobacillus reuteri as is in breastmilk- it is a really healthy strain to take for the intestines!!!

I am glad the fish gelatin in it is tilapia because that's on the MOnterey Aquariums list of sustainably harvested fish so they are p.c.*)!*!

It does have one kind of lactobacillus -rhamnosus- wihch was linked to making gastric ulcers worse instead of better!! So if you have ulcers don't take it!

I have no personal experience with it- I hope someone comes along who does-
Best wishes,
Sarah

Took this probiotic this year when I was having some really bad bowel problems after eating restaurant food that probably had some bad bacteria. It really helped my situation, although I didn't totally get rid of the bad bacteria until I was back on Doxy for a week. However, I definitely would recommend this probiotic and another one called Pearlbiotics. The best one that I 've liked is Garden of Life's PRIMAL DEFENSE.

I've used the Reuteri strain with EXCELLENT results, just not that 'pearl' one that you mentioned. I use Nature's Way, Primadophilus Reuteri, 90 Vcaps

They're enteric coated capsules, with a high CFU per tablet. I thought they were maybe the most economical of the reuteri strain products? Either way, they work awesome for me, and I like nature's way products in general. Good Luck!

Inhibitory activity spectrum of reuterin produced by Lactobacillus reuteri against intestinal bacteria

Valentine Cleusix , Christophe Lacroix , Sabine Vollenweider , Marc Duboux
and Gwenaelle Le Blay

BMC Microbiology 2007, 7:101doi:10.1186/1471-2180-7-101

Published: 12 November 2007
Abstract (provisional)

Background

Reuterin produced from glycerol by Lactobacillus reuteri, a normal inhabitant of the human intestine, is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent.

It has been postulated that reuterin could play a role in the probiotic effects of Lb. reuteri. Reuterin is active toward enteropathogens, yeasts, fungi, protozoa and viruses, but its effect on commensal intestinal bacteria is unknown. Moreover reuterin's mode of action has not yet been elucidated.

Glutathione, a powerful antioxidant, which also plays a key role in detoxifying reactive aldehydes, protects certain bacteria from oxidative stress, and could also be implicated in resistance to reuterin. The aim of this work was to test the activity of reuterin against a representative panel of intestinal bacteria and to study a possible correlation between
intracellular low molecular weight thiols (LMW-SH) such as glutathione, hydrogen peroxide and/or reuterin sensitivity. Reuterin was produced by Lb. reuteri SD2112 in pure glycerol solution, purified and used to test the
minimal inhibitory (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentrations (MBC).

Hydrogen peroxide sensitivity and intracellular LMW-SH concentration were also analysed.

Results

Our data showed that most tested intestinal bacteria showed MIC below that for a sensitive indicator Escherichia coli (7.5-15 mM). Lactobacilli and Clostridium clostridioforme were more resistant with MIC ranging from 15 to
50 mM. No correlation between bacterial intracellular concentrations of LMW-SH, including glutathione, and reuterin or hydrogen peroxide sensitivities were found.

Conclusions
Our data showed that intestinal bacteria were very sensitive to reuterin and that their intracellular concentration of LMW-SH was not directly linked to their capacity to resist reuterin or hydrogen peroxide. This suggests that detoxification by LMW-SH such as glutathione is not a general mechanism and
that other mechanisms are probably involved in bacterial tolerance to reuterin and hydrogene peroxide.

The Reuteri strains cause me irritation at the ol' exit hole. Don't understand why. I've tried many other probiotics without a similar problem. YMMV

I use it, but if I take to much it can cause me to bloat up. So I need to be careful and not take to much at once.

I have used Primadophilus Reuteri and the regular Primadophilus.
My LLMD said a name brand was better, and the manager at my health food said it was good also.
Best wishes,
S
