I'm having pain that is quickly becoming excruciating as each day passes. It's located in my hip (I think). It's deep in my (and this sounds weird), but my butt and goes up to my very low back. It's mostly just the left side, but occasionally is also the right. Can any one tell me what this is? Is it, in fact, my hip? I figure it is because it's so deep. The only way that I can even walk the next day is to have my husband give me really strong massages (almost punches) to the area. He's been wonderful but is quickly becoming tired of this. Has anyone else experienced this? What helped????

Hey, Fetz!

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this kind of pain, and I can definitely relate. Excruciating pain in my right hip was one of the things that ultimately lead to my Lyme dx.

For one thing: pain in unilateral major joints, like hip and knee, is one of the biggest symptoms of Lyme. So I think there's definitely a basis for it.

After I started taking abx, that pain got worse for me. As you mentioned, massage helped but acupuncture seemed to help even more.

When the pain got too intense, I took tramadol (there are two kinds--I had really awful reactions to one but did well with the other, which had Tylenol). It didn't completely eliminate the pain, but it did help. At night, I used different topical creams, including that blue menthol stuff you get at the drugstore. I avoided sleeping on that side (I couldn't).

Over time, it's gotten a lot better and only flares up now periodically, usually if I've overextended myself or during a herx.

Hope this helps. Send me a pm if you have any questions. Hope you get some relief soon!

Andie

It's possibly sciatica. Other possibility is a trigger point, which would be a spot of tight muscle that refers pain. That would explain why the pain is so deep down inside.

I recommend that people with pain find a pain specialist to help treat the pain. Just like you want an LLMD to treat your Lyme, you want somebody who understands pain to treat your pain.
