Unfortunately, I am back seeking some advice.
After 12 months treatment, different regime's - 1st 2 months doxy, 3 months biaxin/Amoxi, 5 months flagyl/Zith and then another 2 months biaxin amoxi. Occasional Diflucan - each diflucan would cause diarrhea and feeling lousy for 48 hours.
Biaxin Amoxi was for supposed H. Pylori never disappearing, even though I feel it's more likely cross reactive to Bb.
In March 2007 had negative Lyme IgeneX testing and a 150 CD57 - I know, great and I had been feeling much better (not 100%) at the time and slowly but surely improving until....
October 20 took 1 Diflucan after a long break due to some liver issues. BAM, it hit me like a train and many symptoms came back from out of the blue with 2 - 48 hours.
Saw Dr S in SF Oct 30 - he put me on Ketek and Omnicef and could not explain the reaction. Wow, it's killing me and now Day 28 (Yes I know the famous Day 28) I feel ready to EXPLODE - fatigue, Muscle Twitches/Spasms driving me through the wall, depression, anxiety, insomnia and pain/flu like feeling. I feel like &%*$!
And the test results from last visit - Positive IgeneX IgM and IgG, and the CD57 back down in the 40s.
I guess it just means I still have some way to go. I am interested in the Diflucan reaction though. I wonder if the yeast was keeping "the beast" at bay?
Sound familiar to anyone? And yes don't worry I am having my liver checked - strange, high enzymes on the Zith and Flagyl, so far perfect on the Ketek and Omni.
Steve from Shanghai (actually now Beijing) PS - a growing number of us Lymies popping up in Asia - I have met a recovered German doctor, An American lady treating in Macau, A Dutch in Shanghai and a Canadian in Singapore.

Steve,
I don't have answers to your questions, but I have been thinking about you and wondering how you are doing.
I am very interested in your Diflucan situation since I have wondered about going that route (per the German doctor...name escapes me) due to his research.
This has to be so discouraging to you since I know when I last heard from you, it sounded like you were making great progress.
Hopefully by responding to your note, it will bring it up to the top again and someone with knowledge on this topic will see it and respond.
I hope Beijing is treating you well. My daughter is there at Peking University until January. Only doing one semester due to her lyme. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Have you found anyone in Beijing, doctor wise that knows anything even slightly about lyme?

Hi Steve! I am so sorry you have to go through all this again. Could it be that you are somehow allergic to diflucan? Isn't there something else they could give you for yeast?
(Not sure what you meant by the yeast keeping "the beast" - meaning Lyme? - at bay. Never heard that worked that way.)
My foggy brain can't come up with anything at the moment, but I am sure there are some other routes to go.
Maybe you could see what chinese medicine does for yeast?
Sounds like you are having quite an Herx. Maybe you could ease back on the meds for a bit. Does your doc believe in that method? I sure hope you get some relief soon.
I hope you are telling people you meet who have Lyme that Lyment is here for them, too.
Feel better! Ann - OH P.S. My grandson is spending the school year in Beijing! He is a high school Junior. He is living with a Chinese family and having a wonderful time.

Hi Shangs *waves*
Are you on Diflucan now? Fungus among us can and oft times does cause all the sx of TBDs and more.
From my experience early on... I improved considerably the first few months and then took a dive. I was worse than when I started.
Once it was figured out, I stopped ABX, took a course of Anti-fungals and then went back on. Taking the (in my case) Nizoral at low dose with ABX. This did keep yeastie beasties at bay.
The thing that made me think about this was your saying. One Diflucan hit you like a train. When I went after the yeast I had a massive die-off reaction. It lasted 3 - 4 days and then I felt remarkably better.
ps. I don't know if that helps or I interpretted the question correctly.
pps. It is good to see you but wish you needn't be here.

Hi, I also have seen Dr. S - are you traveling from another country? Why not New York, where the LLMD's are so much better in my opinion. Dr. S would absolutely be thrilled to hear how $%$&* you feel right now, anytime I have called there, he loves to hear if I am herxing, problem, I don't feel better when it is over. Nearly 2 years of this with him, I am not happy about it either.
It is possible you were bitten again. It happend to me this past spring in the middle of treatment (so says Dr. S).
My guess the Diflucan was just the "trigger", many drugs can do this.
Sorry, this must be so frustrating. Hope you feel better.
Was he your doctor before when you were sick with LD? Which combo worked best previously? Biaxin/Amoxi is a great LD combo, in fact Dr. S believes it kills co-infections as well (not babs).
"Successful control and elminiation of a Candida Albicans overgrowth requires a multifaceted program as described below. Failure to follow ALL the steps simultaneously will result in slow progress and will lengthen healing time significantly. The program should be tailored to the individual and must balance the need to eliminate the Candida and deprive it of its food source while insuring proper nutrition for the individual."
Five Steps to Candida Elimination:
1. You must starve it into submission by eliminating its food source.
2. You must kill it with anti-fungal herbs and supplements. [e.g....garlic, onion, caprylic acid, Pau D'Arco capsules or tea, clove, grapefruit seed extract, olive leaf extract, oil of oregano, tea tree oil, Echinacea, Goldenseal, black walnut, MSM, barberry root, uva ursi, neem leaf, biotin]
3. You must reestablish the proper balance and quantity of probiotic bacteria in the digestive tract. [...multi-strain lactobacillus acidophilus and bifidus capsules with FOS should be taken between meals to maximize repopulation of the digestive tract by beneficial bacteria.]
4. You must reestablish proper levels of all B vitamins (yeast free) and utilize other immune enhancing supplements to boost immune system function. [e.g ... B complex vitamins (yeast free), biotin, beta 1-3 glucan, colostrum, maitake mushroom, vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium]
5. You must cleanse and heal the digestive tract to promote proper elimination of toxins and Candida and assimilation of nutrients. [e.g...chlorophyll, MSM, omega 3 fatty acids found in flax seed and salmon oils, GLA found in borage, evening primrose and black currant oils. Pantothenic acid, digestive enzymes between meals]
====================
I've heard good things about Ketek....as long as it's closely monitored as you indicated.
Take care and continue to work on it!!!
