Problems with Ontario Health proving my infections AND the progress I've made to date while on Mepron and am being asked to jump through hoops!
Have 3 specific questions regarding one of my co-infections: Babesia obtained in EUROPE (which is NOT tested at the CDC or in Canada)...
1. Need journal articles / research showing that longer than 3-months of treatment may be necessary (esp. with other infections);
2. Need journal articles / research showing the benefits of a Babesia FISH (RNA) test (I have 2 positives from Igenex) in especially picking up NON North American strains; and
3. Saw it mentioned on one of the Lyme boards that referenced Band # 58 on a Western Blot that indicated a positive infection for Babesia. I've had 3 Western Blots where this has shown up including the following on one test: 18; 23-25 ; 28; 34; 39; 41; 58; 66; 93 Has anyone heard of this / know of any research?
Thanks, / Charolette Posts: 7 | From Canada | Registered: Aug 2007

Why not treat with Artemisia or derivatives of A? That way you can just order online and treat yourself- ************
Here is PDF re band 58 in mice- & 47- it also talks about maintenance of chronic infection in the animals with lowered parasitic levels hwich could be helpful-

Thanks for your links / suggestions. I am unfortunately not in a position to 'self-medicate' and must be under the treatment plan of a 'Medical Doctor' (too many side issues) dictating this.
Came across the following which is also along the lines of what I'm searching for:
A Fatal Case of Babesiosis in Missouri: Identification of Another Piroplasm That Infects Humans

``... Medical personnel should be aware that patients in the United States can have life-threatening babesiosis even though they are seronegative to B. microti and WA1 antigen.''
And...

Molecular Characterization of a Non-Babesia divergens Organism Causing Zoonotic Babesiosis in Europe
``... no clinical trials in humans have evaluated the effectiveness of any antimicrobial regimens for treatment of Babesia infection not caused by B. microti.''
Today's correspondence from the Min of Health and Long Term Care is now:
1. Stating that Mepron has not received approval for use in this 'clinical setting' nor have they issued an Order of Compliance for its use in this clinical setting;
2. Throwing the IDSA Guidelines at me for both Lyme and Babesia, yet the request is for treatment of Babesia only;
3. Asking whether or not Igenex (or any Canadian lab) has tested me for European strains of Babesia (i.e. anything but B.Microti; WA-1; B. Divergens) yet they have refused for years to to test be for anything but these three strains;
4. Now they're asking for a Babesia PCR test (that they have both refused to do in Ontario or in Canada at the 'Regional Public Health Lab);
5. And I'm to provide PUBLISHED medical literature supporting the use oflong-term Mepon therapy in this clinical setting.
What a joke, eh? So again, any more thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated! / Charolette Posts: 7 | From Canada | Registered: Aug 2007
