So my dh and kids are beginning Mepron on Monday. DD will be taking Mepron and Biaxin for 14 days. DS will be taking Zith and Mepron for 14 days. DH will be on Zith and Mepron for ???
Any advice, tips, things I should know? I read that Mepron is best when taken with something fatty. Is that for better absorption?
For some reason I'm nervous about the Mepron. This will, hopefully, be the last round of ABX for the kids. After 15 long months. After, we will continue with vit C, D, and silver biotics though.

I have no advice, other than bless your heart.
Mepron is VERY hard to take, for some people.
I couldn't take it. It made me suicidal, and has done to a number of people as well. Just be careful with the stuff. Even at 1/4 dose, I was NOT myself on it.

My Daughter (11) has been on Mepron and Zithromax for 18 months now. She has no adverse reaction to this medication. No side effects at all. It was very tolerable for her and still is. Like others have said on this site, try and take it with something fatty as this helps with absorption.
Although testing negative for babesia, this is the one medication that really made a difference for her. She made significant improvement on this after a month or so.
A lot of folks complains about the taste, but if you have ever tried to take crushed up flagyl or plaquenil it is a walk in the park!!!
My only concern would be the short duration that was prescribed? Perhaps there is a reason for this??
I always start my daughters med's very slowly and ramp up, this helps with my nervousness about starting a new medication and hers.

I had no problems with Mepron other than the taste and construction paint consistency and color!
Do make sure you have something fatty with it. I used peanut butter in the morning, and it was a great excuse to eat icecream at night!

I hope the meprom goes well. Your kids may experience flu like symptoms and lots of fatigue a week into the theatment. Schedule lots of rest for them.
Take mepron with something fatty like cheese or or a couple of table spoons of peanut butter (sugar free).
Drink a large (as in huge) glass of water with it.
Do not take on an empty stomach; and do NOT eat grape fruit or drink grape fruit juice while on mepron.
Brush teeth afterwards to prevent staining of teeth.

My duaghter & I both loved the taste- yum!*)*!)!!
I would make mini ice cream shakes for her morning and night- another reason she loved it (and she has always been on the scrawny side so she needed the calories too*)!. but oyu can use cheese or something healthier, too...*)!)*!!

I have only been on Mepron (with Biaxin and Art) for a couple of weeks and I am lovin' it.
I have Lyme, Babs and Erlich.
I still get fatigued, but I feel like some things are changing...
Maybe it is all in my head, but I already feel my weakness and just generally "sick" feeling is slowly disappearing.
So just prepare for the worst but hope for the best!
Not everyone experiences terrible side effects from the medications. I am sure I will have my days of herxing ahead of me, but the days in between are promising.
Best wishes to you:)

The only problem I had was that it caused extreme fatigue - the worst I'd ever felt. Within a day or two after stopping (after a three month protocol), the extreme fatigue lifted. Now I'm back to normal fatigue!
Other people have given good advice (re: fat, CoQ10). Good luck!
