How long has the prescribed prophylaxis for a tick bite been "two pills of doxy"? Where did this come from? Of from whom? Is it part of the 2006 Guidelines?
What's the scientific basis or theory that says this works? Thanks.

That gem stems from the work of Dr. Gary Wormser, the former head of the IDSA, and chair of the IDSA Lyme committee. He ran the Lyme clinic in Westchester county on Long Island. The idea is something like if you discover the tick bite and show symptoms withing the first 24-48 hours, you only need one or two doxy's. Wormser claims that's all that's needed. The devil, of course, is in the details. I know of a guy locally who had Lyme symptoms for 3-4 months before going to the doctor, and the doctor gave him one doxy. The doctor didn't understnd the article. There is a treatment decision tree in Wormser's article that is almost incomprehensible, and will assure many more cases of Chronic Lyme. Beyond unreal.

In wisconson the standard early treatment is 3 doxy's, over a 3 day period. I checked my moms blood with a microscope and there are intact eggs..she even took augmentin of her own for 1 week, didnt kill the eggs!

No, the devil is in Wormser! It's not physically possible for that
to help anybody--400 mg for a good long time is needed simply to
kill the extracellular forms of Bb which possess cell walls.

Thanks! Can you post the link to his incomprehensible article? His "tree" must be in the jungle, maybe that area of Guinea where no humans have ever walked! (I saw a show on Nature. Amazing place they found many unusual species never found before.) Hey! Maybe that's where Wormser came from, descended from______?!

Here's the original article from One Doxy Wormser.
The decision tree article was published just before the IDSA guidelines, which are largely based on Wormser's work. I haven't found it yet..
