Because there's no way I'm going to take them if there's
anything else that could do the job!
Also, is there any evidence that you need to kick the babs, if you
have it, before you can treat any of the bacterial co's effectively?

Adamm, my daughter tested very high for bartonella. We stopped zith/rifampin for a while when her ANA titers dropped to work on babesia.
After five months of mepron/zith hell, her LLMD put her on minocycline...just mino.
It was HARD, and we had to start VERY LOW, like 50mg twice a week.
After three months, she is now up to 100mg daily and making the biggest improvement.
She said that she wished she were put on it in the beginning, but I believe that all the other things she was on helped to get her load down so mino could really kick it to the next level.
I don't know how long you have been treated, but this is a looong treatment. Months on an antibiotic may seem like a long time, but it's actually just starting to get working.
It sounds like you are in panic mode. I know you want to get well...NOW. But, this is a marathon.
Make sure you get 10 minutes of sun a day. If you are low, you may herx from it, but it will do your body a world of good.
Take long, hot baths, and listen to soothing music.

I understand your concern about the quinolines. I wouldn't do it. It made me so much worse.... and caused relapses.
There's herbal stuff - cumanda, banderol, noni, tintures by Nutramedix.
The artemisin (sp?) is controversial. I read it can do permanent brain damage. Do your research on that one.
Scott Forsgren, a poster on this board, may know more. He has his own website betterhealthguy dot com. You might want to PM him or check out his site.

I made no bart progress until I adress the Babs.
Do a search here. Lots of Bart buddy posts w/med combos.

One month is not long enough I think to say that rifampin has failed. Though I am not a doctor.
Have you been tested for/treated babesia?
I have found that what Kelmo said above is especially true -- treatment is a marathon. Although I had some positive gains during the first two months of treatment, I am still making gains after 17 months of abx and antimicrobials -- and have more treatment ahead of me.

The resistance issue applies to TB which is primarily what Rifampin traditionally has been used to treat. Its not clear if Bart develops the same resistance.
In treating TB Rifampin is always used in combination with another antibiotic because of the length of time it takes to treat TB and its knack of mutating over time.
So just because you stopped the Rifampin for treating Bart for a short time that does not necessarily mean its no longer effective. Always check with your doc on these type questions.

Adam, you haven't failed treatment yet. Patience my dear, patience. I know, it took me about 5 yrs to learn what that word means.
Your doctor can make the best decisions sometimes and sometimes it also takes yourself doing lots of reading and research to find the combo/abx that makes you feel better.
You and your doc as a team. Trail and error. Good luck.
