What side effects, if any, besides diarrhea (known) have people experienced with MMS? Also, did diarrhea resolve after a certain period of time being on MMS?

If you have a G6PD deficiency this can cause hemolytic anemia so be careful people!!! G6PD is a genetecially passed on enzyme deficiency- glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) the most __common__ human enzyme deficiency.

If you are allergic to sulfa drugs, fava beans, quinine, or if female have had multiple miscarriages, those are heads up that you may be G6PD deficient!!!! So be careful!!!

highest risk is African Amercians, 12% of the pop is G6PD- but of the type that is least lethal
South Asian I think it is 5-6% but of the type that is more lethal. Mediterranean, Spanish also higher risk type but in lower numbers.
Northern Euro risk is lowest but still exists.

(in fact, althuogh I am Scottish, Norweigian, Welsh, Irish I believe I am G6PD deficient and mean to be tested next time I see my doctor- because I had hemolysis in reaction to sulfa drugs and hemolysis in reaction to anti-malarials, basically if you are G6PD deficient you are primed for hemolytic anemia- certain types of the deficiency are related to lesser or greater sequelae- AND it is associated in females who have it- higher miscarriage rates- and I had 5!!!)

So be careful folks!! You start this and you see spreading very black bruises on your body- STOP IT IMMEDIATELY!

Good caution. Thanks for the information. It is certainly wise to be aware of this.

Scott,

These are the side-effects I've noted on other forums (the ones I remember):

heart palpitations (mostly in those who already have a history of heart palps);
fatigue and need for additional sleep;
increased joint pain (temporary);
spine pain (only saw this in people with Lyme, 2 people).

Here's the link to the last page of MMS topic here on LN - I think there may be some other side effects talked about there.

Also, there is some concern that MMS can alter thyroid function, although I have only seen 1 report of someone who had their thyroid levels checked and all were normal - for that person. I think there is some discussion about the thyroid thing a couple of pages back on the link below.

As to the diarrhea thing, I think D Bergy reported that no matter how much MMS he takes now, he never gets diarrhea. Personally, I do not recall reading about anyone who had persistent diarrhea. Most people either dropped their dose back until the diarrhea issues passed, or stopped the MMS until it was gone, then started back at a lower dose.

I've stopped `monitoring' all of the MMS forums out there - it just became too time consuming. I check out a few occasionally, when I have a few minutes. I was hoping to find some Lymies who might want to post over here, but realized that they would most likely be harassed, so what's the point in that?

The heart palpitations are also common to other treatments for Lyme and not unique to MMS.
Still something to be very careful with.

I will provide a report on MMS and Lyme when my wife is done taking it and we have an idea if it will totally eradicate the bacteria.

She is taking 15 drops most every evening and the herxes are very slight now. Was not that way in the beginning.

We will see what happens.

I've been on it for awhile now. I'd describe myself as "loose but not runny". That's as far as I'm going to go into that. [Smile] I'm fatigued but I think that's due to the tachycardia FINALLY calming down. I take a Kefir based smoothie each day so that is probably helping.

I'm taking 15 drops per day but may boost it to 20. I am OFF clonapin after years of usage. Whether it's due to MMS or all the other stuff I'm doing...don't know and really don't care. fingers crossed...

Sarah - you are saying that any medication that kills malaria or babesia will cause a problem if one has a G6PD deficiency? This includes mepron, artemesia and quinine meds too, right?
