With the mention of live blood, or a dark field microscope, just a general comment - for anyone new or considering that. I was surprised when I was told they could not see everything.

Still, I found it very helpful and it cost me just $35 at the time (long ago). Now it would be considerably more.

I found out the dark field guy I saw did not even believe in lyme so I'm sure he didn't even look for signs of any other TBI either, had they even shown their face - or some other clue. It showed my RBC really clumped. I went to work on that.

Live blood (dark field) slides can be helpful, very interesting but not always definitive in all investigations.

If you see it, well, it's there (if the slide was sterile).

However, the absence of a particular microbe in a live blood slide would not be a 100% guarantee that it would not be in the body, just from the drop of blood used for the slide at that particular point in time.

Some microbes may not hang around in the blood in our fingertips. For instance, Bb generally goes for burrowing, hiding out in quieter places in the body. A tube of blood taken from a vein for using repeated samples might be a better chance, but most I've seen just do the drop of blood from a finger tip.

Some microbes might be affected by the conditions of the microscope light, or a prep on the slide, temperature, etc.

Some take time to "culture" so might not show right away.

Of course, the microscope expert should know all that so you can have a realistic idea of what you could and could not find. Asking questions about their knowledge of TBI would be a good thing to do in advance of the appointment. Asking other TBI patients of their recommendations/experiences can be helpful.

Of help beyond hunting for offending creatures, the dark field can give a clue regarding other factors of health such as enzymes, clumping of cells, etc.

Keebler good point, if you have babes they might not be seen till they crawl out of the cell. MY duck waits and looks again to see if anything crawled out of the smear then next morning. So far, they said, nothing in my blood did. So, maybe no babes.
