Hi,

My lyme lit. doc recommended I use an infrared sauna. However, I read a previous post from a user of this site from 2005 that scared me a little.

She stated that you had to be rid of the majority of your heavy metal toxins before using the sauna or you could suffer serious consequences such as mercury in the brain, MS etc.

Anybody know anything about this?

Anybody had positive or negative results from infrared saunas?

Thanks!

You are probably thinking of Gigi's past posts. She has written a lot on the importance of detoxing slowly and carefully. Chlorella is one thing used to help bind and carry out of the body mercury and other heavy metals which may get "released" from cells when doing FarInfrared saunas. Do a search looking for more of her posts and those of others on detoxing. She is a big proponent of many of Dr. K's ideas. Scott Forsgren can also tell you more about it all if you email him or search for his past posts.

I have had very good results from my FIR sauna. My LLMD has me doing them even more often now that I'm easing off the meds.

I think it's a good idea to take chlorella around the time you sauna if you think you have heavy metals. That way you have something there to bind to them when they are released.

You also want to be having regular bowel movements. Some toxins will come out in the sweat, but others will come out through the bowels. If you're moving daily, you're doing okay.

Plus, drink enough water.

I wouldn't be afraid of them, studies seem to show great benefits from sauna.

I agree with sixgoofykids.

I haven't been doing them long but I really like it. When I'm going through a heavy herx, I tend to back off a bit but I can hardly wait to go back. I use a Korean sauna place in northern NJ.

I'd go there every day or so if I had the time.

I have an appt. to do one for the first time, this morning.

I have a bad cold and I think I might be herxing.

I've already done a lot of metal detoxing, and do a variety of stuff for detoxing everyday already.

Should I go or wait until I'm feeling better?

Thanks!

P.S. Sorry for hijacking this post!

I like the sauna when I have a cold, but I don't really like it that well when I'm herxing ... you might not be herxing, you might be having a flare from the cold. I'd try it. Get out if you start feeling woozy, dizzy, or bad in any way. Drink plenty of water.

Sparkle7, can you pm me the name of the Koren sauna that you go to?

I'll be moving up to northern NJ at the beginning of Feb and would like to try this out.

Well I had my first infrared sauna experience yesterday. I did 40 minutes at 105 degrees. I also did infrared therapy on my head and feet, and an ionic foot bath that turned almost black.

Don't feel any different.

But, I can at least report that doing all this with a bad cold and while herxing did not cause any problems.

No, the sauna won't really make you feel any different after one use. It's like all the other stuff we do, the effect is cumulative.

It's a great detoxer .... but it takes time. They have been clinically proven to remove chemicals (metals, plastics, etc.) from your body, but it is all done over time.

My LLMD has me taking one every day.

I didn't know about the metal thing... I have lead poisoning.

I bought an infrared mat this fall and absolutely love it.

We didn't have the money or space for a regular sauna and there isn't a place nearby I can go to use one.

I use it everynight and it feels fabulous. I don't always use it to work up to a sweat, sometimes to just get the comfort of heat.

My husband and kids love it too. You will find all four of us on one side of the bed watching tv at night fighting for a warm spot.
