The onset of my lyme problems were in 1995 several weeks after I had the Depo Provera shot. That shot wrecked my body. I started having joint pain and heart palps. I was diagnosed with thyroid problems and was given radioactive iodine to fry my thyroid gland and from there the symptoms just got worse. Finally, last year I was diagnosed and tested positive for lyme. Have any of you had a similar experience from Depo or a different shot?

I have had a similar experiance. I have been treated for Lyme since diagnosed in 2004. This past October I went to the doctor for pain I had been having in my shoulder and arm for about 8 months. He said it was a calcuim deposit and a shot would take care of it. I told him I had been treated for Lyme that I had relapsed in 2005 and that I should not have any steriods. He assured me that it was a very small shot of Depo Provera and would be localized in my shoulder and would cause no problems. I very stupidly agreed.
Within three days I was having night sweats that lasted a week followed by swelling of glands and lymph nodes all over my body. Since many of my original Lyme symptoms have returned and new ones have shown up. Its now January I've been back on oral abx's for two months and I am only marginally better. That one small shot set me back about two years and I have no idea when or if things will ever settle back down.
No matter how good you feel if you have Lyme or even suspect you may have Lyme never ever let anyone talk you into getting any kind of steriod shot.

Hi Cricket,
I didn't have a Depo Provera shot - but I did have it's evil cousin Depot Lupron for 8 months in 1999 (they are not the same thing, but both can mess with your hormones). Lupron, for me, was to induce chemical menopause in the hope that it would help my endometriosis.
It didn't. And life since then was a steady decline.
I've been exposed and re-exposed to ticks all my life, and managing for the most part fairly well. But the combo of depot lupron, and the havoc that ensued afterwards (2 major surgeries because the lupron didn't work)... It was all the trigger that brought out the Lyme and co's full force.
It could be that this was the triggering event for you, too.
It's interesting that you have thyroid problems, too - I've just been diagnosed with hashimoto's on top of everything else.
Sometimes it feels like patients like us could make great party games at doc's parties - "pin the diagnosis on the patient" comes to mind...
I hope you are finding the answers you need to get back to your life and feeling well again, Cactus
