My acne was Lyme. Nice to know now that I'm 43.

My adult acne definately came after getting sick. I think that the disease screws up your endocrine/hormone system, and cause you to get acne as a result.

Seriously? Wow! I thought it was just an evil acne gene I got from my Father.

Acne was my nemesis in my teens and in college.

Lyme causes acne? What DOESN'T it destroy in its path?

I think my adolescent acne was a result of Lyme....I just didn't know I had Lyme then.

Why do you guys think this? Has there been research done on this?

I thought acne was a gene passed on in a family...or hormone imbalances, etc.

My Father, my brother and I all had acne but my mother's skin is clear as a bell (always has been). We ALL have/had Lyme and coinfections...so how do you figure her escaping the acne?

I guess I should never procreate.

I only had acne issue when PMSing. Now that I started tx however, I have had bumps appearing to be acne all over my face and some on my neck. I swear it has to do with abx or immune response or something because it is NEW to me

I am 39!

I don't remember if I read something about it several years ago or what, but my cousin also has Lyme and she had the cystic form of acne which went away when she took abx.

I think Lyme can make acne worse. I break out from what I'm pretty sure is yeast, which is related to having Lyme.

I was acne free after accutane in my early 20's. Then, when I completed treatment for Lyme when I was 35, stopped all abx, I broke out into this horrible rash/acne/burning "thing" on my face, chest and back.

Incidentally, I had gone off the bc pill, too, and the dermatologist said that was the reason. He gave me benzaclin and clindagel AND I went back on the pill and it cleared up.

Looking back on it, I think it was both undiagnosed/untreated bartonella (burning rash part) and tons of biotoxins (acne) that I couldn't naturally excrete because I have that wretched gene.

The antibiotic topicals, along with balancing out my hormones seemed to even it out except for occasional pms boulders.

So who the heck knows?

Wait--so is the acne the actual result of the Bb infecting the skin,

or simply that of immune suppression ?

Every one of the antibiotics I was on for acne in my 20's was used to treat Lyme, and like with Lyme, they had to be rotated because they'd stop working. Your acne 'gene' is Lyme.
