i have been on hormones, the synthetic kind, premarin .625 for years.
how does this effect the lyme? good, bad??
i'm 58 and really would like to quit but my ob/gyn says because i've had a hysterectomy he recommends i stay on them indefinitely. ugh....
i have friends who had hysterectomies and they use store bought creams or natural products.

I would never use synthetics. You can very well use bio-identical creams and so very well. I have been using them for years and I have had a hysterectomy.
The synthetics are off a molecule, so your body has to completely adjust to try to match it. Not to mention the cancer link.
If you have any questions, I can send you some good information. Your hormones should be properly balanced to help your thyroid and adrenals.
My daughter is very ill with Lyme and cos and has been using progesterone cream for the past five years. Really helps.

I have had a hysterectomy and the subject of hormones never came up. Why does your doctor recommend you take hormones? They left my ovaries in, though, so maybe that is the reason I do not need them. Hiker53

mine was a total hysterectomy. i have no ovaries, nothing.
maybe that has something to do with it.

I had a complete hysterectomy at 37 years old and I take 2 milagrams of estrace. I haven't seen any difference good or bad with the lyme. I will take the hormones for a long time. Your body needs hormones. I didn't take them for a month after my surgery because my doctor said you can get blood clots after surgery and I thought I was going to go crazy. No sleep, sweating, bad mood swings, it was horrible. My husband says that If I stop taking them he will crush up the pills and put them in my food!

I haven't had a hysterectomy, however, I have had hormone trouble: severe hypothyroidism, PCOS and adrenal fatigue.
Balancing hormones is huge for many Lyme patients, making Lyme and co-infections easier to fight because when hormones are balanced, cells work better: cells become more hostile to pathogens.
An excellent book with regards to understanding endocrine issues is, Feeling Fat, Fuzzy or Frazzled, by Richard Shames MD and Karilee Shames RN and PhD.
Balancing hormones is all about cells being able to "dance" better with cofactors and cell processes.
Yes, there are natural sex hormones. Small amounts of natural steroids, if needed for adrenal fatigue, can be a god send for a Lyme patient.
In this field, the saying goes: Never mess with your hormones, on your own. Get tested! By blood and by saliva tests. The Shames' book points the way. Saliva tests are paid by Medicare. (But are ALL saliva tests?) If you say "saliva testing" to a conventional doctor they will nail you as flooooouuuusssseeeeey.
I mention this book because it's extremely helpful at understanding endocrine hormones.
Since you've had a hysterectomy may I suggest an alternative or integrative doc? Do your homework and make sure they know what they're doing. Ask around with the women in your area.
