My LLMD said that because I haven't made any improvement, and actually have worsened some since starting Zith/Mepron in early December that we are going to discuss more aggressive treatment options next time I see him in March.
We won't be able to do IM Bicillin because I am allergic to Penicillin (along with many other abx). So, I am assuming he meant IV...but I wonder how long I should stay on orals before switching?
I have been sick for a LONG time...I'm 17 and this disease has stopped my life 100%. He wants me to get my life back (so do I!!!).
So, does anyone have any opinions about how long to stay on orals?
Thanks! (Also, I will discuss everything with my LLMD who I trust very much...so no worries there!)

Hi KN, I know you know this already, but for the sake of discussion, my LLMD started talking about using IV 9 months into treatment with the intention of starting them one year into treatment.
How much Mepron are you taking? I was taking 2 tsp. twice daily.
What about Omnicef/probenecid? It could be added to your current protocol along with Plaquenil. Taking all three of those in addition to your current protocol would be substantially more aggressive, but still less risky than IV.

Hi knshore, I agree that aggressive doesn't necessarily mean IV. My son was diagnosed in 2005, he was 9, he was on IV for a month and now has been on oral antibiotics since. He has been on a lot of meds for 3 years now, I call that aggressive, but that is must my opinion. We are just now seeing some improvement. Dustin hasn't been in school for the past 3 years, so he knows all about giving up everything. He has lost touch with all friends and really doesn't do anything. So he is right there with you. Please feel free to stop by his caringbridge site. Good Luck
