My daughter is now 2. I already unknowingly had Lyme while pregnant with her.
I don't think she's showing any signs but little things I question. She will be tested soon.
I'm wondering if anyone had Lyme while pregnant that had a healthy child that didn't show signs of Lyme even years later. I'm talking like straight into early adulthood.
You only hear about the stories that did pass Lyme in utero. I'd like to hear 1 that didn't.

I have given birth to five children and I had Lyme through all my pregnancies (one child is adopted).
My LLMD said they only needed to be tested if they were symptomatic, so we only had one child tested who was marginally symptomatic. Her test was equivocal .... the best we got was two IND on Lyme-specific bands.
She was treated for 8 months. Treatment was relatively easy for her and she was never really sick from it.
I started my 19 year old on Cumanda and Samento just to see if she reacted at all, and she didn't.
My 17 year old shows a few minor symptoms, but is so uncompliant, we haven't had him tested. He's not sick, but has some random symptoms that could be written off to being a teenager.
My other children show no signs.
I have to add, the one who was treated is 14 and she has had tick bites of her own, so there's no way to tell if it's from me or from the bites.

Hmmmm. Well, I am pretty sure I had Lyme when I was pregnant with my second child.
However, he was a C-section baby and had difficulties breathing at birth.
Released from NICU in four hours. Found out he had a hole in his heart at day 5.
No repair necessary as per pediatric cardiologist.
Other than delayed physical milestones he has been very healthy.
When both my children contracted RSV, my oldest had it the worst.
Same with bacterial pneumonia and virus'.
He also had the most bands show up via Igenex for Lyme.
My oldest child didn't start showing symptoms other than getting ill a lot,
Prior to age 5. I don't know if she is congenital or not.
It is possible.
Hugs,

Thank you everyone! This gives me some hope. I did breastfeed for a year and ironically, my daughter refused the breast when I first started getting VERY ill.
She wanted it but when she tasted it she wanted nothing to do with it. Like she knew something was wrong.(smart cookie!)
Her 2 yr. check-up was today and her Dr. ordered an ELISA, Western Blot and is also checking for Mycoplasma.
I'll let you all know how it turns out! Keeps your fingers crossed for us.

I contracted lymes in the summer of 1993. I was in the first trimester of my third pregnancy. At that time I was working and just about to graduate from nursing school, married the a two and four year old. When I first started feeling bad the docs wrote it off the pregnancy fatigue, blah blah. Then one evening by accident I discovered the bullseye on my back. Everyone sat up and took notice then!!! Several sonograms and minimum reassurance in Jan of 1994 I delivered a healthy baby girl. She was tested and treated orally at age 1. The only health problem she has ever really had is a lazy eye, corrected without surgery and she is very mildly ADD. She is very active and healthy and the only real illness she has had to date is the chicken pox (right along with the other two at the same time). I often wonder if it were note for the high fevers, ect.. I endured would she have had the lazy eye or the mild ADD. I will never have the answer to that....but when I think of what the outcome could have been I am grateful!!! Today she is a active, articulate and intelligent 14 yo girl that rarely slows down. I hope this helps and gives you a small ray of hope.

Finette,Thanks for sharing your story with me. I know it will ALWAYS be in the back of my head, even when she reaches puberty.
I'll have to make sure that my husband remembers to keep this in the back of his mind also in case something happens to me.
I would hate for her to be labeled as lazy or an attention seeker when it's really Lyme b/c I know what it's like to have Dr.'s imply that when you're really sick.
Thanks Hartlygrl! That makes me feel that if we catch and treat early, that she will hopefully be OK.
I'm guessing your child tested positive at age 1 then?

Hartlygrl,
Sorry, I forgot to ask how long she was treated at age 1.

I can't remember exactly how long she was treated.. 14,21 or 28 days (I was so sick back then a lot of it is a blur). No longer.
Yes, she did test positive (lyme titer), but she was an infant and they are born with the mom's immune system...they weren't sure if it was her or me.
We were living in Delaware at the time and had a wonderful pediatrican who felt better safe than sorry.

I was infected long before my pregnancy. My daughter is 30, finishing a PhD and fairly healthy however she has had symptoms off and on over the years and some that no one could figure out. Looking back I think it's highly probable that they are related to congenital infection. She was on long term abx as a child for ear infections. That probably helped quite a bit.
My siblings are all sick with what we are sure is lyme. We are fairly certain that they contracted lyme during childhood same as I did when we were living on my grandfathers ranch. Each of my sisters have 2 kids and my brother has one for a total of 6 kids between us. Out of the 6 kids, one has autism, 2 of the girls are ill, one very ill and her child is ill. My brothers son has ADD and some other problems. My daughter and one sister's son are the 2 functional kids out of 6 kids.
What we do notice for my daughter is that exposure to mold seems to bring her immune system down so she may well have the detox problem that my sister and I have.

Wow Terry!
That's incredible that you are all sick! Not surprising though I guess. I totally believe it is all due to Lyme for your family! I hope everyone is being treated by good doctors.
I know I read that it can present as autism in congenital Lyme.
That's great that your daughter has been so succesful despite being ill. That makes me think my daughter can have a normal life regardless.
Sounds like out of all the kids, your daughter was saved with the long term abx for the ear infections.
Holy cow! That just made me realize that I only felt better during the middle of my pregnancy which is when I went on abx for a respiratory infection.
I also had IV abx while breastfeeding due to mastitis. Hmmmmm....
I also think I have mold in my house and my husband says "You have to get out of this house! I think this house is making you sick!"
Ironic isn't it? The house may be making me sick but I'm too sick to go out!!! Ugh!
Best Wishes to you and your family and thanks for sharing!!!
