Wondering if CHITOSAN NOW brand is ok to use with hyperthyroid? I have a thyroid nodule and hyperthyroid symptoms are aggravated by iodine, kelp, seaweed, etc. I know CHITOSAN comes from crushed shells. I need something to help with neurotoxin removal from bartonella in my nervous system. Please private email. Lisa

chitosan mixes with acid and water and bonds to certain things in one's digestive tract. You don't want to take it with medications. Id does bond with fats, hence the reason it is sold for diet aid. Eat the candy bars after taking chitosana nd you'll not absorb the fat....carevul about getting stopped up if you take toooooo much. I bought it bulk powder form. ohh, might want to read archives for stories on that...ick.
You might want to use the same precautions as with cholestyramine the cholesterol absorbing drug.

Lyme is like the flu. You can get it and recover, but you can always get it again.

Capebite: I sent you a PM.

I'll include the information here, too, in case someone in your position does a search on this site about the same thing.

-----------

Chitosan mostly comes from crabs, shrimp and lobster. They come from sea water and that means they'll have an iodine content.

I'd be very leery of the iodine content, as you are having a thyroid problem and yes, you're right, too much iodine will aggravate the thyroid.

The thyroid is about the only thing that uses straight iodine in the body.

Since you are hyperthyroid, your body is already finding enough iodine to make too much thyroid hormone, as it is. (T4 is one molecule of tyrosine plus 4 molecules of iodine.)

I'm not a doc, but ...

If it were me, I'd avoid it like the plague.
