a co-worker has gotten a bullseye rash from a dog tick. it was about 2 months ago

his dr is not treating and waiting for test results. I already know a few things but whats wrong with this picture?

doesn't the CDC say to treat if there is a rash and not to wait for test results? aren't the tests negative early on anyway?

also, if the tests come back negative, doesn't STARI cause a rash from a dog tick? does everyone become chronic or do some people not need abx?

any other points I am missing?

Even 20% of the people who get prompt treatment will

become chronic, and this includes "STARI" patients. If his doc waits for the test results

to treat, your friend will have no chance. Show him

all the literature he can stand to read, and make it clear to

him that if not beaten in its early stages, Lyme, like Hell, is

eternal. Maybe even start an office fund to get him to an LLMD.

Would it be at all possible for you to provide him with antibiotics until

he can get professional help?

My friends and family sometimes listen to logic if I just ask them to think about it, then leave them alone. You can't make sometime do something just because YOU think it is right.

The doc with the most experience (in this case an LLMD) would be the best choice for the MONEY!

Just like a pediatrician (not a family doctor) would see the most child illnesses; an LLMD would see the most bull's eye rashes. If you know an LLMD to suggest, even better.

But suggest and leave it alone. The more you insist on trying to run someone elses's life, the more they will resist.

It may be helpful if you print off the criteria for diagnosing Lyme.

Like an EM rash being positive....

Too much trust in ducks....maybe some denial also.

Again, most people associate Lyme with deer ticks only.

It has kind of been drilled into their heads.

My daughter was bit by the same tick that was found on the dogs. She has been sick since 1991. The dog died. She couldn't walk, hear or see any longer.

Went un mis diagnosed until 2005.

Get to a LLMD ASAP. Is this a DUCK MD?

That's the problem...some people are of the opinion when a doctor makes an educated guess about YOUR future and YOUR health...

that they are doing the right things for them.

Bullseye is no doubt about it, slammed in your face, bulls-eye, he scored big. LYME & anything else that dog tick had in its gut when it embedded and starting feeding on him.
