After the last several gall bladder attacks..I had enough. The LLMD switched me to Ceftin today to give my body a break from the Rocephin. He did not want me to get my gall bladder out yet. I hope I do not relapse and keep getting better. I was on the IV for 3 months and it did help a great deal but I still have neuropathy. I am now on Ceftin 500 twice a day, zith 250 once a day, and mepron twice a day.
Any suggestions? Can I take all these at the same time? Anything to avoid? I am tired of thinking about this Anything better? Now I just plain scared but I loved not having to get stuck today for the IV.

I was taking this combo, and I have to say, I had very few side effects. In fact, my doc raised the zith dose but took me off the ceftin and its making me feel terrible. I'm going to askk to go back to the Ceftin and lower zith.
I think you probably already know that you need to take the Mepron with a meal and about 23g of fat. Also, the Ceftin gets absorbed much better with a meal. I took all three drugs at the same time after meals, and had litle problem with it. The fat could be a problem for you with your gallbladder, so I would ask the doctor how best to resolve the Merpon/fat issue
Be sure to drink lots of water with the Ceftin. It gets processed in you kidneys, and so its good to flush them out.
Also, zith and all those other "myacin" drugs are more likely to cause yeast problems, especially when you take them with another kind of abx. So make sure you are taking your probiotics.
Oh yeah, when I first started taking the Ceftin, I was incredibly tired for a few days, but maybe after having been on IV this won't be a problem.
Did the doctor ever suggest a medicien to help prevetn gallstones? I forget what its called, I know that its something they found in bears...related to their hibernation I think.

Thanks Amanda I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will help get me better. My stomach was really shot. I am not sure how long it take the stones to go away nor what I should eat with the mepron in the meantime? I just hope this is the best abx for me to take now.

Monica, Glad you dont have to get stuck anymore!! WOO HOO
I hope it works out!
I think the med for protecting the gallbladder is Actigall.
Actigall is used to help dissolve certain kinds of gallstones. If you suffer from gallstones but do not want to undergo surgery to remove them, or if age, infirmity, or a poor reaction to anesthesia makes you a poor candidate for surgery, Actigall treatment may be a good alternative.
Actigall is also used to prevent gallstones in people on rapid-weight-loss diets. And under the brand name Urso 250, its active ingredient is prescribed to treat liver disease caused by hardening and blockage of the bile ducts (primary biliary cirrhosis).

Thanks Melissa. I am not sure whether I am happy or just scared to death My Dr. does not think actigall works on Rocephin stones. The stones are different which is why they go away when you stop taking the meds. I hope they go away soon because I want to eat FATS again. I am dreaming about Philly Cheesesteaks. I am so skinny it is nuts. I just hope these are the right abx for me now.
