No, I haven't been tested or treated for this.

However, I am going to see abt getting tested!! I have wondered abt Brucellosis for along time.

I have wondered if Brucellosis, isn't the cause of Sarciodoisis?{SP}

If I remember correctly Brucellosis is the Bovine/Cattle equilivant to TB. And I think it infects pigs too.

I am sure there are many of us, as children, who did drink raw milk.{Hubby and I did and we both have sarc. I am lyme pos and he is neg, but showing signs!}

From reading the link Tosho provided {Thank You!!}, you can also get brucellosis from blood/secreations from infected animals.

"""Brucellosis, malta , Mediterranean or undulant fever is caused by infection in humans by some species of bacteria of genus Brucella. These bacteria infect domestic animals-including cows, sheep, goats , camels, horses, pigs, cats and dogs. Hippocrates and Aristotle have described malta fever in humans. The first identification of Brucellosis as a disease entity is attributed to Marston (1861).

Human infection is acquired via the gastrointestinal tract by ingestion of infected milk or milk products , or by contact with infected animals or meat through the skin , conjunctiva or lungs .""

This can then be easily had,by having to assist an amimal giving birth!! Or even just petting a new born baby, who is only a few hours old. I KNOW I DID MANY TIMES!

ANYONE who has been around live animal births {Even dogs and cats} , may seriously want to get tested for Brucellosis. Or even if the dog licks your hand..or a Cat bite!!

Merrygirl, please think abt this!!

The other thing I wonderd IF Brucella and /or Sarc, was related to the TB tests, that most of the children of the 60's had to have in school almost yearly??

Makes you wonder What was in those things??

Parents might want to ask thier kids if they handled any newborns proir to getting sick??

More pieces to the puzzle??

I wonder what BANDs on the WB cross reacts with this?

I hope someone knows more abt this and replies to this thread.

Thanks for bringing this up!!

I have been tested for Brucella and treated for it twice. After being treated for Lyme for more than a year including two rounds of IV Rocephin I still felt like crap and had really bad pain in my lower back right side and groin area. My doc on a hunch tested me for brucella and the titers came back very high.

He treated me with Rifampin and Doxy for eight weeks and we pulsed flagyl. After eight weeks the titers had dropped way down. I went for a few months than the symptoms came back so we tested again and the titers had climbed back up there. I did another round of Rifampin and Doxy and things settled down again and the titers dropped. Not 100% sure if we got it completely, I have good days and bad still but the back and groin pain is for the most part gone.

Brucella is genetically similar to Bartonella. I have found that the abx. that work for Bart. should be successful for Brucella.
