It has been about 2 1/2 months since I started taking levaquin, and I noticed an increase in ear ringing.

Does this mean it is too toxic in my system?

Also, how long does levaquin take to leave the body?

Thanks [Smile]

levaquin...look up adverse reactions
I was crippled, in pain for a year after taking levaquin for a week and half. I thought i was sore from lifting something. No, it causes severe tendinitis in every tendon in the body. Also spontanoues tendon rupture. It can be a very evil drug. It can be a great drug. Educate yourself on it and stop taking it (talk to your doc) at the first sigh on an adverse reaction.

Yes it means it is too toxic on your system.

Do evaluate if it is really your best option of antibiotic.

Levaquin leaves the system relatively soon, because it has a short half life, but its negative effects can last for years. Levaquin has a big potential for causing permanent injuries once the toxic reaction develops.

After taking levaquin for a long time, one has to wacht out for a year or more, for delayed toxic effects.

Savebabe -

what else are you taking? Sometimes it is not just that particular drug that causes the ototoxicity, but the synergy of drugs -

e.g. I didn't start going deaf and having ringing on the IV zith until I added the plaquenil;

then I started to go deaf and have on the oral zith at a high dosage only when I added the mepron.

But by itself it was OK.

Then I heard that mepron will cause ringing in the ears by itself.

I think that yours and my ears are particularly sensitive (from our past experiences) and that it is going to be partly bc the abx are killing bugs in our ears, combined with all of the above.

So, what I am saying is - maybe the levaquin by itself is not doing it, but the combo of the levaquin and something else at those dosages?

You have taken levaquin in the past without this problem, haven't you?

In the end, it really doesn't matter, bc it is not good and something probably needs to be changed...

I know I am rambling, but I hope you get my message in the end [Smile]
