Ok, this is just a silly question probably, but I was curious what the proper pronunciation of "candida" is. I always say can-duh-duh, but in all the health food stores and even my dad who is a pharmacist says can-dee-duh. So I finally looked it up in merriam webster online and several others and its can-duh-duh, the way I've been saying it. Why do so many people say can-dee-duh? Anyone have any thoughts?

I've become inspired and determined to get into the medical field, so I think it's important I learn to say things properly and the etymology of words helps me a lot in how I learn, so this seemingly silly detail is important to me. If anyone knows, let me know. Maybe the long "e" is the latin pronunciation or just a mistake that became common...?

Actually, I think the latin pronunciation would be with a short "i" as in saying the word "if" -- so it would not sound like can-deeda.

All of the physicians I've seen who have diagnosed and treated my candida have pronounced it with the short "i" rather than the candeeda pronunciation I had used for so many years. lol
