For those of you who have bartonella:
1. Did you test positive for it? If so, what lab did you use? 2. Were you on meds when you tested positive? If so, which meds? 3. Did you test positive via a blood smear or IGG/IGM test? 4. Did you test positive at any time after treatment had begun? 5. If you didn't test positive, what was the basis for your diagnosis?
I suspect that my husband has bart. His current LLMD doesn't believe he has it, although the previous LLMD believes he did. The previous LLMD tried to put him on Zith/Mepron and Levaquin all at once. After researching this, we heard this was bad, so after repeated attempts to discuss this with the LLMD, we decided just to try a month of Levaquin alone. After that month, my husband's insomnia improved. Now he is with a new LLMD who is only treating for lyme. I am considering doing the FRY Labs test to try to see if we get a positive for bart. In speaking with the lab manager there, if he is on lyme ABX, it shouldn't affect his bart test. I'm now wondering if the month of levaquin might make it tough to detect the bart, but since my husband still has symptoms and is not on levaquin, I'm thinking it shouldn't affect it.

I was diagnosed with Bart by Fry in 2007, Igenex missed it 5-years ago when they caught my Lyme.
I'm on alternating days of Zithro & Rifampin.
I "think" it's pretty rare to get a positive for Bart on ANY test but Fry seems to be the closest. My LLMD did a smear (pricked my finger and put it on slides and sent to Fry).
This, too, should have a clinical diagnoses because there are many false negatives.
Trust your gut feelings because I can't BELIEVE how Jekyl/Hyde - ish I was pre-treating the Bart. I had/and still have so much emotional stuff:
anxiety anger depression agitation OCD only physical symptom: small itchy rash on wrist and occasional swollen/droopy/dry eyes
All the head stuff...others with Bart have physical pain but I've been herxing my emotions out...it's been incredibly cathartic and I feel a calming coming over me. It's like a miracle.

I tested positive on Igenex IGG 1:40 a few months into taking doxy and zithro. 3 months ago I tested positive again on IGG (1:80). At that time I was on rifampin(before that on levaquin for 2 months). Now I am on avelox (moxifloxacin) and my neuropathy pain is still very bad.

I got an IgG positive @ Igenex while unmedicated. I had, however,
taken four weeks of doxy right after my bite...so I guess

1. Did you test positive for it? If so, what lab did you use? Yes, I tested positive for it through Fry blood smear.
2. Were you on meds when you tested positive? If so, which meds? I forget, but it wasn't Bart meds; I was on lyme meds while I was tested for Bart.
3. Did you test positive via a blood smear or IGG/IGM test? I tested positive through Fry. The IgeneX didn't pick up Bartonella and said I was negative.
4. Did you test positive at any time after treatment had begun? Yes, during lyme treatment but not Bartonella treatment
Me and LLMD didn't suspect I had Bart whatsoever. But it came back positive and shocked us, so it's good that we did get the smear done!

Take a look at the following video Bartonella: A Clinicians's Viewpoint - by Dr B on www.lymediseaseassociation.org/VideoView.html Dr B states that tests are more inaccurate than lyme with only a 20% positive rate-you will also see that another dr states in all negative for bart/positive for lyme mums Bartonella was found in the placenta after birth
2. Were you on meds when you tested positive? If so, which meds? Make no difference???
3. Did you test positive via a blood smear or IGG/IGM test? Again refer to video if you test for Bartonella it can be insensative as many Lyme patients have BLO
4. Did you test positive at any time after treatment had begun? You continue treatment until your LLMD knows that bart is under control/if he is good he will know regardless of blood tests
5. If you didn't test positive, what was the basis for your diagnosis? Again a good LLMD can see if you have bart as CNS symptoms/Neuro symptoms are way out of control, even before a blood test - I was lucky to test positive but LLMD knew before that as I had reflexes that were so over responsive when he did my knee relex I nearly kicked him in the face, anxiety beyond anything you can imagine and many neuro symptoms
Levaquin is the drug of choice - I personally am told to take it with trental to improve drug penetration - If your not happy, get a second opinion

I tested negative for bart but was diagnosed based on my response to Cipro. I was put on Cipro for another infection and felt much better -- my head cleared and my GI symptoms improved. When I stopped the Cipro, those symptoms returned.

make sure you have real player on your pc. The first 5 use Windows media player, but the others use Real Player. There is a link below the videos to download it.
I made a copy of it for my wife to give to her doctor, so if you can't get it I can send it to you. Let me know
