What's more scary... this quote below or the fact the CDC was called to the rescue?
"Over seven hundred Iowa National Guard personnel attended training exercises in Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, in May and June of 1997.
About a week after returning to Iowa, they began reporting illnesses ranging from rash alone, to headache, fever, rash, muscle aches, and joint pain.
All reported multiple tick bites while at the training exercises. Serum samples from the first 10 to develop illness were tested by UHL for tick-borne diseases including Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF), Lyme Disease, and Ehrlichiosis.
Two of these guard personnel were serologically confirmed to have had RMSF while another 2 were confirmed to have had ehrlichiosis.
The Iowa Department of Public Health called in the CDC to help with the testing, determining the number of persons affected, and assessing the potential for transmission of tick-borne infectious agents through transfused blood components collected during a blood drive at Ft. Chaffee.

Interesting. This tells how Human Ehrlichiosis was named... from the military base, Ft. Chaffee!
Ehrlichiosis chaffeensis
"But, finally, in 1990, Jacqueline Dawson and her colleagues at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) isolated a new species of Ehrlichia from the blood of a US Army reservist training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, and this new species of Ehrlichia was named E. chaffeensis.
The specific form of human ehrlichiosis it causes was dubbed with the generic name 'human ehrlichiosis'."

Great post. I am going to seek more information about these post. I have always had a question in my mine, and dream at times that I have the answer. Why so many ticks and the presentence of LYME on so many of our military bases?

Wouldnt be the first time the military was used as guinea pigs.
How is it speculated that LYME started???
Unfortunately we may never know the answers we seek.
My Base is Highly endemic for Lyme.

proud, do a search on PLUM ISLAND where lyme is thought to have been created by American scientists as bio-terrorism.
read also in my newbie package the detailed 33 pages printed, VILLAGE...another word; darn; my lyme mind forgot again! outstanding written by a lymie author!!! i think if you do the EDIT, FIND, and type in VILLAGE; it will come up for you in my newbie package.
