I'm the mom to the 1 year old son bitten by the tick last April.
He has recently developed Hives this week. We went to an allergeist yesterday, thinking it was a food allergy. All tests came back negative.
Allergist said she sees hives all the time in little kids, and it could be the result of a virus.
I've seen some articles on the internet about Lyme causing Hives. Is this true?
Do they mean that the initial rash (EM rash) can look like hives? Or that he can develop hives at any time because of the tick bite?
Please help! As usually, I'm all worked up about this and will probably put another call in to Dr. J.
Thank you!!!!

Yes I got hives up and down my legs about a year or so after being infected with lyme. I didnt know either what the cause was but Ive read a lot of other people have gotten hives too.
Do a search for hives and many threads will come up.

My sister also has recently had hives issues at the age of 49. never had them in her life. She was "cured" of CLS neuro Lyme about 3-4 years ago, then the hives came on just recently. She also wondered about any connection.

I'm Noreen's sister. The hives began in September 2007 at exactly the same time I started having constant acid reflux. The hives and are continuous unless I take 4 doses of Tagament a day along with other anti-histamine medicines prescribed for night. The Tagament works for both my heartburn and the hives. Both the gastro doc and the allergist says the two disorders are not related, though I doubt this.
My CNS lyme was cured as far as I know. 4 years ago, 12 weeks of IV rocephin did the trick.
To be certain that I did not have H-Pylori bacteria which causes both ulcers and hives, and that I am not having a relapse or a new infection, a couple months ago I went on heavy duty antibotics for 8 weeks. This had no effect on the hives or heartburn at all. Neither of the disorder's symptoms lesson, and they did not get worse. This is why I doubt these hives are caused by a current Lyme disease infection. However, my immune system got totally screwed up from having the disease in my body for years. My allergist tells me my chronic hives (chronic urticaria) is an auto-immune reaction. She said 90% of persons with chronic hives that had not been caused by a food allergy, liver or thyroid disorder (tested negative for all of these) are in this category. In other words, I am allergic to myself apparently. From what I understand, one does not need to have any live infections in one's body to have auto-immune disorders. The fact that a body is fighting itself could have more to do with damage done to the part of the body's system that regulates auto-immune reactions. So, I'm not thinking this is lyme-related at this point. But I am open to other opinions.

I got my hives after 6 weeks of taking high dose orals. The are on my belly, back, and lower arms.
We stopped antibiotics to see if the drugs were causing my hives or if it was from another source.
It took about 3 weeks for the hives to go away. We waited another 3 weeks and began a new family of antibiotic.
The hives returned in only a few days this time. My LLMD said it could be the Lyme in my tissue and my body fighting it off.
Again, mine goes away when I take away the antibiotics. Also, I take Benedryl at night but it really doesn't seem to be doing much.

I also got hives LONG after being infected. Like Sweetpea's Mom, I also got heartburn/reflux when the hives started so I believe they are related as well.
I have Lyme and Mycoplasma and my doctor believes the Mycoplasma is causing the hives but who knows.
