Hi- Has anyone taken amoxycillin??? And if so what are your thoughts? My llmd just took me off oral zith and put me on mega doses of zmox.-gradually building up and it is really affecting my stomach. Also I am questioning why this drug that was the weakest one that my pediatrician used when my kids had ear infections. I asked him about IV Rocephin and he said that is a big step-not yet. I would love to knock this out with just orals-but so far 5 months and no improvement.

I had a difficult time with amoxicillian and zith. Doxycyline worked better for me, and I saw improvement with that.

I stuck with high dose Amox for one year and it really helped with my arthritis and tingling hands/feet. It was much easier on my stomach than Doxy, which gave me GERD and skin sensitivities.
Right now I'm having difficulty with ear pain and have had to stop it, but it had been a good friend to me.
Really took a long time of slowly ramping up. I hope I can continue with it and ramping more, but the ear pain may be a problem.
Best of luck to you,

wiserforit-What was your dose of amoxycillin and do you remember when you started to see improvement? I know it depends on your weight. are you male or female?? Did you herx on it? I still have no clue whether I have experienced a Herx through all this. I also have tingling numb feet and also really bad nerve pain in my arms and legs and headaches and burning in head, fog, etc.

I took amoxy for 5 months. It did a lot. I herxed every time I increased the dosage. We did a peak level blood test to see if I could take more .... I took 2500 mg. three times daily along with Probenecid to keep in in my bloodstream longer.

Thank you everyone! It makes me feel a little better. I will keep it up. I am seeing my LLMD again in mid April. This place is what keeps me going sometimes. Today I had a total meltdown and I could not stop crying! It was horrible. I am still trying so hard to cope...

I'm with Six.
DO take with Probenecid. It keeps blood levels high. Probenecid is curiously enough a medicine for gout! Never noticed any effects from it.
Amoxicillin helped me a lot. I was on it many months. I considered it a mainstay. And MUCH, MUCH easier constitutionally speaking than the wretched (though good) doxy. Also, not affected by sunshine.
Amox in high doses crosses the blood-brain barrier where infection is present.
It's mentioned in the Burrascano guidelines.
You can't go wrong.

I took up to 6G a day for about 2 weeks in the beginning. I got severe runs and hemroids and was unable to walk. I moved on to other abx. A book I read says cell wall inhibiting abx are useless, except for a quick kill of the sticks.

A couple of months of amoxy and then amoxy+ceftin for a couple more didn't do anything for me personally.

I just started 6 grams amox along w probenecid zith and plaquenil. I am tolerating it all pretty well (no stomach or yeast issues) Amoxicillin is a well tolerated drug and can be taken in very high doses.
