Well it's official. I met a duck today. I am trying to have faith in the medical community and it is just not working.... [confused]

I thought I would at least follow up on the referral that my primary made..... went to see the infectious disease doc today.... [Frown]

Ok, here's the laugh....he said he didn't think that I had Lyme, " there are alot of false positives" he said. [bonk]

He is repeating the test just to " make me happy" but he doesn't expect it to change.

He thinks I have CFS because I never had a tick, rash, etc. and Lyme hasn't migrated this far south. [bonk] [bonk] [bonk]

Oh and one more funny thing...... I should deal with any anxiety or depression issues that I might be supressing. [Eek!]

I don't think I will be seeing him again!!

I do have one problem, I am just not tolerating the doxy/biaxin combo. I am calling my NP who is treating me to get a change in antibiotic. The doxy is fine but the biaxin is horrible!

Hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Easter!

Uggggggggggg.. ducked again!!!

So sorry!

And you sound so calm too! Amazing!

Is that because you haven't gotten all the duck feathers out from between your teeth yet?

[lol]

Hope your NP helps you cause this dumb duck sure won't.

PS... I will post a Florida post for you to print out if you'd like. I hope you do... and I would hope before you throw the duck in the alligator pit.. you would take a minute to send it to him.

If WE don't start showing the idiots how STUPID they sound to the common patients... they may never know.

Your efforts might help the next person who is sick. And I thank you.

Calm, ha ha! Only because I have grunted and groaned about this idiot for the past two hours with my husband...... [bonk]

I am actually going to call my HMO and tell them that they have one heck of a duck working for them. I truly feel sorry for his patient's. [Frown]

Does anyone think that this test will come back negative because I have been on antibiotics for about a month? [confused]

I will look for the Florida post, Tincup. Thanks!

My dad said that the govenor of Tennessee was just diagnosed with Lyme, has anyone heard about this?

Good to know "calm" was not the case.

I was beginning to wonder about you! HA!

Thanks for doing ALL you can to educate these fools. Seems their minds are inoperable.. possibly because their brain has been soaking in turpentine since they left med school?

Just a guess.

And yes on the negative test. NOT a good chance of getting a positive now.

While I have the opportunity...

Anyone reading this.. please note. When allowing an ID duck or anyone NOT Lyme literate to take blood you can be assured they ONLY want to do it to prove you wrong.

The Anything But Lyme Syndrome (ABLS) is what your diagnosis will be after it is all said and done.

Playing their game will:

1. It costs YOU and/or your insurance company when they do this too.

2. Not only do the tests miss 75-90 percent of the people with Lyme.. these ducks don't know HOW to do the testing (and use the worst ones possible)... WHEN to do it (sometimes they do it the DAY of the tick bite... when NO antibidies will even be there)..

And they don't have a stinking clue how to read it (I've seen ID ducks have to sneak off to another room to call "poppa" to help them figure it out.

And poppa is usually the BIGGEST BRAIN-DEAD duck in the country. So you KNOW the results will NOT be in your favor.. even if the test is positive.

But thanks for trying to educate them.

What are your symptoms?

Could you be having a herx reaction from the Biaxin?

Sorry you had to go through that! Its so frustrating every time we meet another Dr that dont know anything about lyme! How can it be still?

I too have a hard time on Biaxin. Hopefully you can find a combo that will work for you. Theres plenty of abx out there. So keep trying.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon! [group hug]

Here is a pretty good general article to take to doctor's appointments..."Diagnosis of Lyme Disease" published in the American Family Physician Journal, Vol. 72/No. 2 (July 15, 2005)

Print the AAFP article that states the false positive rate is ONLY 2-5%. That's pretty small. Syphillis and gum disease can cause a false positive Lyme test.

Do you have either of these? If not, then it's more likely you have Lyme disease. See the False-Positive and False Negative Test Results discussion near the end of the article.

http://www.aafp.org/afp/20050715/297.html

This same article states that a bulls-eye type rash may be seen....but the more common rash seen in highly endemic areas is a red solid rash. See the end of the first paragraph under Clinical Presentation.

The risk map in this he AAFP article is very out of date.

You should also print the US Army Lyme Risk Assessment for Florida installations. This information documents the types of infected ticks in various areas, types of hosts carrying infected ticks, and the risk of contracting Lyme on those installations.

Be sure to read all the fine print. You'll find some gold nuggets of information to dispel the duck's opinions.

hshmom,
thanks for the references.

I have printed them both off.

I wish the military one had something for Tennessee. I was there in December, 2 months before my diagnosis of Lyme.

Thanks again!
