Hey Guys,

I really still struggle with sleep. I was dx with apnea last week. I am waiting to see the doc so we order the cpap machine.

What a process go sleep over for dx, 3 weeks later report gets to doc. I now have to go back to sleep over again with mask. It works; now I have to wait again for the darn report. When this can be all done in one night. The test is called a "split". I recommend anyone getting tested choose the"split" it will save you time. Tell your DOC!!!

My results included 29 apnea and 99 hyponeas in a 321 minute study. Meaning i was awoken every 3 minutes. my oxygen level was 82% while sleeping, not good at all.

I can deal with the Lyme stuff, but the fatigue kills me. I am hoping this will be my last big issue. Keeping fingers crossed.

Let me know what your experiences have been.

It has been a while since I have been here, I hope all are doing well.

Take care,

Paul

I think I may have sleep apnea also. So what is involved in the test? You actually sleep away from home for a night???

Hi PRConn. It's nice to "see" you again.

Do you notice a big difference in daytime sleepiness since starting the nighttime oxygen?

Laura,

You do sleep away from home for the night. You would go to a sleep center and have many wires attached to your head and body.

Michelle,

Doing pretty well. IV abx made all the difference. It is not actually oxygen. It is a machine that forces air into your nose to stop the tissue in nose and throat from closing.

Take care,

Paul

Hi everyone,

I know that sleep apnea can be caused by various things. However, one of those things is hypothyroidism.

Just thought I'd mention it since hypothyroidism is common in Lymeland.

paul,

be sure to look on pages 1-3 especially for another current thread on same topic with OTHER IDEAS that are used!!

you could also do a SEARCH found at top and type in

sleep apnea
medical
topic line
any date
leave membership no. blank; hit send

read all posts/replies ... lots of valuable experience there.

if nothing shows up, use BACK button and change topic line to body contents; hit send, and you'll get posts.

good luck; i've got it too and cpap didn't help me at all.

this is an area i need to pursue since members came up with other good alternatives!! [group hug]

MM , you dont get oxygen . It pushes regular compresed air at a determained pressure to keep your airway open . Doc

So from what I understand, Central sleep apnea is more dangerous b/c your brain basicly forgets to tell your body to breathe?

So if this is what I have, is there no treatment and I need to keep my fingers crossed that I'll wake up?

Does this go hand in hand w/sleep paralysis?
