Hi,
I just got tested for Lyme and do not yet know the results. My doc. decided to put me on abx anyway to start treating-just in case.

I have been feeling really depressed and don't want to live anymore. Seems like it has gotten worse since I started abx.

My leg pain and fatigue are getting worse as well. Is this part of the "getting worse before you get better"?

It definitely could be.

I know how you feel. I'm very depressed at the moment as well. This disease has ruined so much of my life.

I guess I am glad that I am not the only one, even though I wouldn't wish this on anyone! I am having a really hard time staying positive and being hopeful.

I am also worried that my test results will show up negative, even though I am positive I have Lyme (I have just about all of the symptoms). I guess I am scared right now and not getting a lot of support from the hubby.

Thanks for your kind words!

hang in there lorenz,

it is normal to feel the way you are feeling - and you will get through this-

sometimes just breaking down the big picture is the answer -

get through this day, or this hour - take it in steps-

you have good news here - your doc gave you the antibiotics now - and that is good news - some are not that lucky -

getting worse before getting better - if you are herxing that is good news too - even though it doesn't feel like it -

losing your health is a big deal - it is okay to feel bad about this -

and then you move on like the rest here and you fight - fight - fight

will be thinking about you-

Sounds like you may be herxing!

Depression is one of my worst symptoms when I herx. I deal with the pain and fatigue much better than I deal with the depression.

Remember, herxing is a good thing because it means you are killing some of the "bugs".

You will get through this and you will feel better!!

It is truly a bummer that you aren't getting more support at home. Please come talk to us whenever you need some support.

We understand what and how you are feeling and we want to help.

Please hang in there and let us know the results of your test.

Hello [Smile] The depression wont last so try not to let it get to you. It will pass, just like a stomache ache or a headache will. Yes depression is a lot worse than physical pain (in my opinion at least) but it will not stay forevor. Just think that good days will come and you will be happier in time.

It is normal to get depressed or feel down when you are herxing. The fact that your feeling worse right now is a good sign. Do you have an idea of how long you went undiagnosed for? Or did you just get bit recently? Are you on strong enough abx.

Hello-
My dr. told me that depression can be a side effect of the antibiotics.

You can experience extreme symptoms of any psychiatric disorder. He warned me about this when I started ab's as I have a history of depression.

I have not had any of these side effects but, as I said before, they can be experienced.

I suggest you call your dr and let them know what is going on. They may switch meds or give you some help in some way with this.

Do you have an LLMD? If you have tick-borne diseases, you

really need one to have your case managed properly.

Hi Lorenz,

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through.

My 20 year-old daughter has been diagnosed with Lyme and Babesia after 7 years of mis-diagnosis.

She, too, suffered from depression caused by her illness. She was prescribed Zoloft which made her symptoms worse. She switched to Prozac which was no better. Both of these meds actually made her depression worse and it was dose related...the more she took, the more depressed she got.

Finally, after finding this web site, I found some posts that made reference to Lexapro and that it had helped where other meds failed.

I told her non-lyme-literate psychiatrist I wanted my daughter to try Lexapro and it has been a life-saver. Her depression is gone and we have our daughter back.

I know people have had good results with Zoloft and Prozac so I'm not condemning them.

I've been told by an LLMD that he has had much success treating Lyme patients with Lexapro.

I'm sorry you're not getting the support you need but you can find support here. I did, and I'm thankful for it.

Paul.

Herxing can definitely either cause depression or make it worse. Herxing makes some people suicidal. In these cases, psych meds can help, but as others have pointed out, they have to be the right ones. In my daughter's case, risperdal and trileptal have made a world of difference. Good luck.

Thanks everyone for your encouragement! I actually seem to be doing a little better, even though there are good and bad days.

Like I mentioned before, I have not yet been diagnosed with Lyme (still waiting on results). I believe I have had it for 14 years! Found out about Lyme through my mom's friend...the dr.s here don't know much about it.

I have really bad psychiatric symptoms...have for years. I have been on many anti-depressants/anti-psychotics of which most made me worse (in fact, I had some of those "rare" side-effects).

I was on Lexapro after my last baby was born, and it actually helped (I thought it did...some say I was more manic). Then after about 6 mos., it started to go sour and I started getting really depressed again.

Then I started to take birth control, which has been one of the only things to help in the past, but is off and on now. Seems like nothing is working at this point. I have noticed my "raging" hormones have been one of the major symptoms.

I am taking 200 mg. of Doxy per day (one in morn. and one at night), and 5 days of Zithro./5 days off. I hope I am getting better. Please pray for me. Thanks again!
