Leave it to the IDSA.
Look at these figures on how much it cost to vaccinate people for Lyme disease...
Keeping in mind the vaccine was removed from the market and all this money that we could have used to HELP people was wasted... and then some.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.....
So much for their prevention efforts!
"At the average national incidence of Lyme disease (0.0067%), the incremental cost-effectiveness of vaccination was $1,600,000 per case averted when a yearly booster was given for 10 years after the standard initial vaccination regimen of 3 inoculations at 0, 1, and 12 months.
For populations with an annual Lyme disease incidence of 1% (the incidence in several well-defined geographical areas of the US), the incremental cost-effectiveness was $9,900 per case averted.
Disease incidence had to exceed 10% before vaccination with yearly boosters became both more effective and more cost saving than no vaccination."

By the way...
The incident rate for Lyme disease has gone up.... the COUNTED cases...
To a staggering .. well here it is...
These are 2005 figures...
And I know Maryland, for example, has at least doubled their incident rate in the past two years since these figures were published.
Oh.. and the rate these states are SUPPOSE to be at... according to the health dept/CDC and their BILLIONS of dollars in budget money... is 9.7 percent.

Well, thank godness our mattress and bedding is protected by those "nifty" compounds to keep us "safe" from dragons and such. (No, not the scaly IDSA ones.)
Sudies have come out over the last few years that such bromelated flame retardants are secreted in breastmilk. And that aside from being exposed to them by surface contact, we also inhale them on a regular basis. They have been found in dust collected from regular homes, offices, etc.
"Recent studies have shown that PBDEs are present throughout the environment, and have been found in human breast milk and the fatty tissues of artic mammals. The long-term effect of exposure to PBDE, the flame retardant, is still inconclusive, though animal studies indicate they can disrupt thyroid hormones harming the brains of developing fetuses."
Isn't that a hoot?

Okay TC. You are trying to motivate me by posting these stats? I wish I could organize myself out of this state (pun) I'm in and do something to educate everyone in KY?
It takes everything I have to just take care of me and post what I've learned, doing this lyme & company myself on this site to try to help others.
When I post about something I've learned myself during the last 10 years, I get slammed by some trouble maker on this site.
No wonder you get ticked off and disappear sometimes? Must be why Gigi quit trying to help others herself?
Thanks TC, for what you do. I will organize and take on the state of KY and education about lyme & company as soon as I can. That's a promise.
