Now before you guys answer. I already know that Dr. B's Guidelines say for ORALS you need between 300 and 600mg a day. Further he says IV is better since Doxy needs to remain in the system in constant high levels for it to work. He recommends 400mg of IV Doxy per day. I was already taking 400mg of ORAL Doxy per day and it wasn't feeling like enough, although it was working.

I am about to start my IV Doxy course and the Doc is starting me out lite. IV Doxy 100mg, for 2 weeks. Then uping the dose to 200mgs all once a day.

I have been on IV Rocephin for about 2 years along with a bunch of different orals. All helped immensely. I feel I'm nearing the end of my treatment so I ask you this.

Anyone out there who was significantly helped by IV Doxy, what was the dose that helped you. Could 200mg be enough? My doc is fine with increasing if I'm not improving.

So now I find out that since I have a picc line I may not be able to get 400mg of Doxy. Anybody know the limit. Anybody who's gotten IV Doxy through either a picc or central, could you please respond. I'd like to hear your experiences.

I was on IV Doxy for 5 months-400 mg. five days a week and 500 mg. two days a weeks. I had a PICC line but I must warn you- doxycycline IV is very caustic and must be given through a central line.

My PICC line was shortened by a stupid nurse who let it come out every time she changed the dressing and after several weeks the line got so short that the doxy caused phlebitis and the line had to be pulled. I had very severe vein inflammation which I still have until this day and that was in 2002.

I had another line put in but it became blocked after only two months because doxy can also cause PICC lines to become clotted and I was flushing twice a day with Heparin. After that line was pulled I changed to Rocephin which in my case helped more than the doxycycline ever did.

If you have a PICC line with doxy just make sure the tip ends up in a large blood vessel so that you don't have to go through what I did.

Thanks AMK. Yeah right now, I'm only on IV 100mg once a day, down from 400mg ORAL. It still seams to help, but not as much as the 400mg oral dose. I think the caustic thing is the reason my doc started me so low.

The highest he's going on this is 200mg. As for the picc line I have the Xray to show its where it should be. I think I'm going to have to ask the doc if this dose doesn't work to switch me over to a central line. I'd rather do it that and get the full dose.

I've already been on Rocephin and it was immensely helpful but Doxy seems to start right where Rocephin left off. I guess we'll see.
