CraigC-

Totally get your point and I agree...those of us in the world of LYME easily see the possibility of lyme everywhere. Everytime I talk with someone who has a medical condition I'm thinking "I bet it could be Lyme"....

Michael J. Fox, three co-workers at 70s TV show, all got Parkinson's

Last Updated: Friday, March 22, 2002 | 7:39 PM ET
CBC News

"Canadian-born actor Michael J. Fox, while working on a CBC sitcom as a teenager, contracted a virus that some researchers say may have caused him to later develop Parkinson's disease.

Fox worked on show Leo and Me in Vancouver in 1977.

Researchers studying the degenerative disease theorize that exposure to viruses or environmental toxins can trigger its onset years later.

According to Dr. Donald Calne, director of the Neurodegenerative Disorders Centre at the University of B.C. Hospital, Parkinson's can develop in clusters of people, such as teachers or workers who live close to each other.

Fox is one of four Leo and Me workers who have been diagnosed with Parkinson's, which leads to muscle rigidity, tremors and involuntary movements.

Calne is treating two people who worked with Fox on the short-lived Canadian sitcom.

Japansese researchers have established that a virulent form of the flu, caused by a virus, can make its way into the same part of the brain that Parkinson's attacks.

Fox left the popular TV series Spin City to raise money for Parkinson's research."

More evidence that it is Lyme Disease? I know it's not 100% proof but to me it seems even more of a possibility with this info.

I just heard recently that he's deteriorating and could die soon. Does anyone know if that's true?

Craig,
I read most of the newbie posts and I don't recall anyone being told that they have lyme disease when they say they only have a headache or migraine. Would you please be so kind as to point out these LN posts?

The reality is that most people that come here asking if they might have lyme disease have already been through many doctors and tests and have told that they either don't have anything wrong with them or they have fibromyalgia, CFIDS or should see a psychiatrist. Here take a pill and go away.

It does seem prudent to tell a person who has been through many doctors and tests with no answers to consider seeing an LLMD if their symptoms could possibly be related to lyme disease and that is typically what I see happen on lymenet.

As far as Michael J. Fox, I have read that he had contracted lyme at some point but I don't know all the details. Wouldn't surprise me if he had lyme disease underlying his parkinsons. Even if he hadn't contracted a known lyme infection, he may still have lyme as a cause for his parkinsons.

This link gives anecdotal lyme/parkinsons information.

What should be done, but lazy ducks dont want to get there hands dirty, and dont want to have to think. I s do live blood microscopy right in there office, if you have lyme, and its bad enough to feel terrible, you will find the bug in a drip of blood, now you cant say, OH thats lyme 100 percent, but by watching the bug swim, etc, you can figure it out. see, ducks dont want to have to think. AND they insist on making at least 1 mil a year or there not happy btw.

forest,

michael isn't dying; he was interviewed recently; doing as well as can be since he takes such high doses of parkinson's meds that leave his hands going all over the place.

Betty,
Thanks for clarifying. I'm glad he's not dying. [Smile]
