Got the results of my Igenex lyme and co-infections tests. Here are the positives:

IFA, B Burgdorferi G/M/A: >1:80
Lyme IgM Western Blot (positive):
18++
30++
34+
45+
66+
83-93+
Lyme IgG Western Blot (negative):
41+
45+
B Duncani IGM: 1:80
B Duncani IGG: 1:80
Babesia Fish (RNA): Positive

Bartonella came back negative. I have all the symptoms, though, and am wondering if I should get re-tested through Fry Lab?

I have had Lyme symptoms for 16 yrs., but the tests say it is a recent infection. Dr. did not ask me about any of my symptoms...just went off of the test results.

He also doesn't order IV anti-biotics, but from what I have read, IV is crucial for those with Chronic Lyme. Does anybody have any comments on that? I am confused.

I just want to kill this stuff and feel like I need something stronger than the 100mg.-twice a day of Doxy and 5 days on, 5 days off of Z-pack.

I still don't know much about the interpretation of the results...any comments would be greatly appreciated!

hi; i don't see any reason to RETEST at fry lab!

iv abx are generally used if ORAL antibiotics aren't working! you don't start there; at least I didn't!!!

LYMETOO'S DR. C'S EXPLANATION OF WESTERN BLOT TESTING!

http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=042077

PRINT THIS OFF the full explanation, and then CIRCLE the numbers that coincide with your positives, IND! That will explain your no. results! good luck! [Wink]

Well, it's obvious you've got lyme and babesia. If you have all the symptoms for Bartonella, you probably do have that as well. It's a clinical diagnosis. If you have the symptoms, it needs to be addressed and treated.

I have all the symptoms of Babesia, but got a negative back for that.

Also, just because you got IgM positive does not exactly mean it's a recent infection. It just means that your immune system is doing it's job and continues to make antibodies. I have heard somewhere on this board that people with IgM positive could actually mean the opposite, but not sure where the literature to that is.

I'm unlucky and have never gotten a positive Western Blot and have never gotten anything more than one positive band.

Fry Labs is good too, so if you have the money and feel like you really want to have it done, you can test through Fry. I know how you feel -- I want so badly to finally get a positive Western Blot but two different tests have showed nothing but the one band and the other test was completely negative. I know what it's like to NEED that validation. [dizzy]

I don't think I'll ever stop trying either. I am going to ask my LLMD which other labs would be good to test at besides IgeneX -- I think I might try the Western Blot at Fry.

Are you seeing an LLMD? By the drugs you are on it doesn't sound like it.

Your test looks positive. IgM in Lyme testing is not the same as IgM in other disease. Somehow the Lyme infection can always show up as being a new infection even when it's not.

Not all chronic Lymies need IV. I've had it for 35 years and have done fine on orals alone, but I've been on a much more aggressive protocol than you've posted.

My LLMD diagnosed me with babs and bart based on symptoms. As previously mentioned, it's a clinical diagnosis and testing isn't all that great.

Good luck with treatment.

Sixgoofykids,
I AM seeing a LLMD. I travelled from Utah to California to see him. I am not very happy with him, though, and his head nurse seems to know more than he does (she is more verbal anyway).

I thought we needed to be more aggressive in the treatment, and I told them that, but they told me they don't want to make me too sick...that was their explanation.

I started treatment for the Babesia today, and I will take these new abx for one week:

Cleocin: 300 mg. 3x/day
Quinine: 260 mg. 3x/day
I continue the Doxy., but stay off of the z-pack for now, until I am done with these.

I have started to feel really light-headed and my hearing is muffled...it almost feels like my head might explode. I hope this doesn't last too long. What a long road ahead!

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on the IV abx...don't you think where I've had it for so many years, that it would be stronger to kill the Lyme? Thanks in advance!

That testing is highly positive!
Your antibiotic doses are WAY too low!
DO you not have a LLMD?

You are right, you need something more aggressive, those doses are totally inadequate to treat Lyme and co-infections.

Wildcondor,
I am seeing a LLMD. I travelled from Utah to California to see him. I don't believe he knows as much as his nurse claims he does. He took over for another Dr. that had years of lyme experience.

His nurse actually called this retired Dr., from his office while I was there, to ask how to treat the Babesia.

There are currently no LLMDs in Utah. I am relieved that I know what I have, but am frustrated that they are not treating it aggressively...have had it for 16 years with severe psychological problems.
