When my son first got sick 5 years ago he had a very high fever and headache for about a week and as he felt better he got a bulls-eye rash on his chest. We recently met with a new doctor who said that Lyme does not usually start with a high fever but that Babesia does. No one has ever checked him for or suspected Babesia before. His Fye test was negative.
His current symptoms fit Bartonella and Lyme.
Any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

My thought is Erlichia....fortunately this seems to be one co-infection easy to get a handle on...if treated that is. Was your son tested? It would be interesting to see if he did show exposure at some point in time.

I have also heard erlichia, and babesia would be a consideration as well. My LLMD says that presentation of symptoms could be both.

At age 5, my daughter had a high fever and was terribly ill, so ill that I had to help her walk to the bathroom. Doc wrote it off as a summer flu. A two weeks later she had 5 of the bull's eye rashes on her torso, and not one had a tick bite mark inside it.
So yes, she had the fever before the rashes appeared. And she has suffered ever since due to docs not treating her aggressively.

Just to clarify my earlier post....I do believe it could also be lyme as the timing of the rash does not always mean much. I personally know of one guy who didn't get a rash until 1 year into treatment.....
I'm just thinking that Erlichia is a possibility in addition to Lyme as it can come on quickly and with a high temp!!
