My 10yo has been off abx for almost a year. She has seemed fine, but this past week she started complaining that a lymph node on the left side of her neck was painful. She's had no fever, no other signs of illness, nothing but a swollen lymph node.

Took her to the doctor's on Thursday and she swabbed her for strep and gave us a rx for zith to fill if the strep came back positive or if she started getting worse. Well, by this morning, her neck hurt so much that she was ready to cry, so I started her on the zith. She's improving a bit, but I'm concerned that this could be a relapse of her Lyme. I can't remember now what co-infections she had besides mycoplasma.

Also, she's had an outbreak of 4 plantar's warts in the past 3 weeks, which I understand can indicate a depressed immune system. Because of her allergies, she's taking Claritin and Advair. She also just finished a week-long round of Ventolin and Albuterol inhaler. Is all of this garbage messing up her immune function? I'll call our LLMD on Monday, but always like to get thoughts from you folks.

Thanks, Betty! Hoping someone can give some insight. I'm worried we've depressed her immune function with the meds trying to control her asthma/allergies. Concerned that we've given the Lyme or whatever else she had the chance to re-emerge. [Frown]

IME the drugs will and are messing up the immune system and the liver. There are other ways to deal with lymphatic congestion. Some massage therapists specialize in lymphatic massage. To search in your area go to www.upledger.org and choose to search for those that specialize in lymphatic massage.

Another good tool is a far infrared sauna - those also help quite a bit.

Thanks for the idea about massage. Right now, the gland is so large that I can see that her neck is swollen down the left side. She doesn't even want me to go near it, let alone massage it.

Called the duck and explained what was going on - heaven forbid I interrupt his breakfast - and he basically told me to bring her in tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, she tells me she feels as though she can't swallow normally because of the swelling.

I'll take her to the ER if necessary, but am hoping the LLMD will call me back - left a message this AM for him. He's the only person who will take me seriously about the possibility of this being related to Lyme or a co-infection, so I'm hopeful he'll check messages and get back to me.

Any other thoughts from anyone? We have two indoor-only cats, so bartonella occurred to me. She was serologically negative when tested before, but that doesn't mean much now.
