I have done the search of all the threads and it seems most people find Rifampin hard to deal with.

But also noticed a couple comments that Rifampin doesnt work alone?

I know most everyone is taking more than one antibiotic. Is it absolutely necessary to take more than one abx at a time?

I know When my doc showed me the positive test for Bart, she said she would not hit me hard with the abx like she wants to because it will take me out of commision,

I appreciate that but is it actuall going to hurt in the long run not to be on more than one. [confused]

There has been a lot of discussion on here about Rifampin and other antibiotics. A number of LLMDs apparently believe it's dangerous not to combine Rifampin with another antibiotic.

My LLMD says it's okay to take alone, but this is under dispute. I suggest you do a search of old posts before you make a decision on this one.

I took rifampin with (I think) zith.

Rifampin was tough for me.

Get ready for the orange pee.

Also if you wear contact lenses, it can stain your lenses.

I had to really bump up my magnesium on rifampin.

Oh, and it really makes yeast go wild.

Make sure you are watching your diet and taking probiotics.

Diflucan couldn't hurt.

Hugs,

Geneal

Hi,
taking rifampin now along with zith.
My doc said you must combine rif with another abx to avoid resistance emerging. So better be safe than sorry I suppose.

It is a hard drug yes, but if it helps it is worth all the trouble.

thanks for the info evreyone

I am taking the Probiotics, but avoiding wheat and sugar is proving to be very difficult.

I never realized how much stuff has wheat in it. CORN flakes have wheat! I was floored.

I went to the local Whole Foods store, they have almost everything wheat free. But it is Expensive!

Guess all I can do is try to avoid it.

I am going to check with my doc and see if she thinks I should be on two abx at the same time.

I know she wanted to put me on Levaquin but since she didnt know if it would be carried by my medical facility she said Rifampin would do the same thing and she knew it would be carried.

She also stated she didnt want to put me out of comision so maybe that is why she only put me on Rifampin for now.

Thanks again, [Big Grin]

I took it for a month with doxy and cefdinir without any problems

(didn't improve any, though, and wound up with

elevated liver enzymes.)

My biggest challenge with taking any antibiotics is nausea. Even on a low dose of Doxy (100 twice a day with food) and a very low dose of Rifampin, also with food, I get nausea. Anyone have advice me? I've tried several anti-nausea medications, including homeopathic, and I drink ginger tea, but still get no relief.
Thanks, kate

Yeah, to get relief, Nexium or a proton pump inhibitor taken many hours away from the Doxycline should do the trick.

I tolerate treatment with Rifampin and Bactrim simultaneously just fine.

I've always heard that bart can become resistant to Rifampin

if it's used alone.
