From what i have read, Borrelia hermsii and Borrelia turicata cause relapsing fever. Is this picked up on a regular borelia b lyme test?

Or is there another test? and who does it?

Von

Maybe my recurrent fever at 7-10 day entervals is my lyme or my wa1 babs.... but could it be a different strain altogether? Perhaps treatment would be different?

I had a separate test for these, although I wouldn't put money on the results being reliable!

Mine were through Quest. Not a great TBD lab, but they found everything else (and I had all the usual culprits plus some). There are better labs, for sure, but since Quest caught all the others & they work with my insurance - that's where we sent mine.

My recurring fevers decreased with babs treatment (microti and WA-1). I hope yours do, too.

Thank you cactus and adamm for your replies.
I just ended a 9 month treatment for babsia about a month ago.

Before I started the mepron I was on zithromax and metronitizole (pulse four days per week).

When my LLMD put me on mepron for a few months he said I could drop the metronitizole, but within two weeks my 3 day per week low grade fever was back.

I hoped it was a it was something else.... like a flu bug or something, but it continued on for about 6 weeks, with a fever a few days in a row each week.

Was put back on metronitizole along with the mepron and zithromax and finished up nine months.

Now I have been switched to doxy and amoxicillian, but again within a few weeks, I am back to a fever 3 days per week like clock work.

My doc and I had thought that the babs was the most likely to be causing the fevers, but now I am wondering. Why can the metronitizole keep it down but not mepron?

I know for sure that I got lyme disease, which has been treated extensively over the last few years, but maybe I picked up some OTHER spirokete as well.

I have never been tested for relapsing fever or syphlis for that matter.

What else could I have that causes low grade fever?

Any guesses or speculation would be appreciated

Von,

Not sure if Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever could be a culprit or not.

Just noticed recently that the Fry Lab is now testing for Rickettsia -- not sure exactly what all comes under that heading. Might be worth a call to the lab.

Von,
Babesia causes low grade fever. I have had a fever for about two years now.

--------------------
Positive 10 bands WB IGG & IGM
+ Babesia + Bartonolla and NOW RMSF 3/5/09 all at Quest

And still positive ELISA and WB two years after IV treatment

von, it took me quite a long time to get the recurring fevers down. I still run a nightly 100 - 101 temp, but that is significantly lower than the old usual (104) - I count it as progress.

I did 8 months Mepron and Ketek (plus others), then a short break while on IV Roceph for 3 mos. The babs came back and the fevers crept back up.

Then I did another 6 mos on malarone and zithromax (plus others). Relapsed again, the fevers crept back up.

Finally hit it again with Mepron, zith, plaquenil and artemisinin for a few months and that seems to have done the trick.

All the while, I pulsed Flagyl - it could have some effect on babs, too.

Now my evening fevers stay constant between 100 - 101. But throughout the day the fever stays low - for me - around 99.5. All the other babs-specific symptoms have disappeared.

If you suspect B. hermsii or the others, get tested. If that doesn't pan out, then perhaps revisiting the babs treatment and adding in artemisinin would help.

It is so puzzling trying to find the answers sometimes. I hope you feel better soon.

I dont know about babs. I tested negative for it.

I have had a fever for over 3 months now. I tested positive for lyme and bart.

I imagine it is possible all of these infections could cause fevers.

Rickettsia
A genus of microorganisms that combine aspects of both bacteria and viruses. Examples of rickettsial diseases are Rocky Mountain spotted fever and typhus.

Von

How can Rocky Mountain Spotted fever be a rickettsia and a borrelia?

Count me in the Fever club too!

I've been having low grade fevers off and on, but mostly on for 3 years now! I've been on Zithromax and Malrone for about 1 year.

At first when I started the ABX fever went away, but after a while came back. Not sure, maybe I'm not taking enough of the Zit & Malrone?

I'm not even sure if it's Babs causing the fever. I also have elevated EBV, so that could be the cause too. I guess reading the other posts here, it takes a very very long time and a few rounds of ABX to kill the damn bug!!

Eh.. this is just totally sucky!

Anyways, just wanted to let you know you're not alone!
