HI
Yes, from IV Rocephen, I had bad herxes and I'm grateful it helped me, especially with brain stuff.
Go to the board for the Medical Foum and look at the top of the thread topics. Look for the topics that are red-flagged--"stickied." Look for the one on IV Rocephen. There is a lot of information in that thread.
What antibiotic are you taking? If it's IV Rocephen, then women need to take actigall (ursodiol) with it to help prevent gallstones.

thanks for answering!I am currently taking mino, but the new dr.I'm seeing
wants me to go get alot of blood work and then change to Cipro and
cefton. Then he wants me to get the IV in my arm which I've never got.
Is the herxing bad when you have the IV? I have numb and tinglyness in my
face, tongue and right hand, do you think it is the bacteria die off or more symptons? Posts: 27 | From pa | Registered: Mar 2008

Hi christineLyme2,
It's hard to say if the tingling-numbness in your face, tongue and hand is from a herx, because I'm not a doctor. However, the orals you're on can be expected to produce herxes. A herx is a worsening of all signs and symptoms.
I'm just wondering, though: Does your new doctor know about the NUMBNESS IN YOUR FACE? Is that a completely new symptom? May I suggest you call and tell him or her that--just in case. To be on the safe side, do call and ask.
I can't say if IV Rocephen made me feel better--or it worked quicker--than if I'd done orals instead, because I have nothing to compare it to and we're all different.
What I do know is that IV Rocephen is known to be very powerful and very good for the head stuff. Not bad for arthritis stuff, either!
I'm glad I got it--I'm very grateful.
Herxing is a good thing because it means there is a die-off of germs. Yet, we Lymies are silly: we take our meds to feel worse! (That is, so each time after herxing we can feel a little better. That adds up!)
Everybody is different. We hear that all the time. That's really true.

I never had any herx from Rocephin, took for 5 months and it got me out of bed after years - followed up with IM Bicillin and herxed from here to kingdom come!!!!!!
I cannot tollerate any oral AB so IV or IM for me is the best.

I was told that I would get worse with the herxing when I get the IV, I'm just nervous because I don't want to get worse.Right now I just have numb and tinglyness in my face, hand, and foot.Other than that I don't feel that sick besides the brain fog and dizziness and I feel like my eyes got worse. Does anyone else see black sqiggly lines in my eyes when I look at a blank wall, I know their not floaters either. I think it has to do with the lyme. Posts: 27 | From pa | Registered: Mar 2008

IV abx are definitely the way to go for a lot of cases of Lyme. I've been on a ton, including Rocephin many years ago that got me well.
If you are having eye symptoms, I always think it's a good idea to see an opthalmologist. Things can happen to our eyes outside of Lyme, and sight is so important.
I notice you are in PA. If you can get to the Lancaster area, I've been told there is a good LL Opthalmologist down there. I haven't seen him yet, though I have an appointment in 2 weeks. PM me if you want the name.
And, be careful who you see for your eyes. I went to a "duck" Optometrist who really ticked me off with his bedside manner. I had photosensitivity, floaters, and poor depth perception, and he basically shrugged off all my questions about that. And he put me in pain during his exam and refused to stop.
Good luck with your treatment!

Hi christinelyme2!
From my experience......it was absolutley necessary and was what has gotten me back on my feet again and my brain working.
I was on Rocephin in combination with an oral for a very very long time with no problems.
I started with the PIIC line in my arm and latter went to a port, not a Hickman but a port. You have choices so I would recommend that you do your own research and be part of the decision making process.
There is a lot of information on ports, Hickman's, PICC lines and so forth on this site.....good place to start.
Good luck with your treatment and decisions.
My best.....

Thank you everyone who answered me and told me what they know, I really appreciate it! Is cipro and cefton good to start and be on before the IV, because that it what the Dr. is going to have me do.
I never heard of these meds before. Lightfoot, I know the eye Dr. you are talking about,my LLMD told me about him. He knows the
effects lyme has on our vision. I'm just sick of having symptons, and I know I'm not alone, but it's just to the point where I wish I could be feeling normal again. I know the lyme is screwing up my brain.I have spots on my brain and I know lyme gets into every organ. Why isn't more being done about this??I feel like I can't even really drive. I feel like I'm buzzed Posts: 27 | From pa | Registered: Mar 2008
