Merrygirl posted this really helpful link. It's for a lab that focuses only on TBD's in cats and dogs.

They do testing that is probably more reliable than just an average vet and also offer treatments if tests come back positive:

Great videos! thanks or posting.

As a side note please dont purchase flea and tick prevention from the grocery store. An example is Hartz products. These products are CRAP and can be dangerous.
