Ive been in severe pain all week after doing 5 days worth of Flagyl of 750 a day and also starting the lowest dose of the buhner protocol and the 3 core herbs. everything seemed to be going well so far until a few days in when i got terrible headache and all over body pain and nausea. i was on the Flagyl for C Diff but i guess its really doing something to the lyme. ive already done 20 months of antibiotics and have been feeling alot better lately so wasnt expecting quite this much of a herx. its the biggest herx ive had so far on abx treatment. my question is has anyone out there experienced the same thing? im worrying alot as usually when i herx once i stop the med the inflammation and pain is gone within a day or so but its been 3 days since i stopped Flagyl and havent taken any herbs since yesterday morning and the pain is still very bad. im writing this drugged up and wearing shades;) i spent a year when i was first ill with this same severe migraine-like pain and had to stay in my room which was boarded up as i couldnt tolerate light. i know im probably not thinking clearly because of the pain but im worrying that this pain will not go away and i will have to spend another year like that one, the thought scares me so much. i know im being silly but id really appreciate any advice anyone has on Flagyl, thanks so much!!

Hi! I haven't taken flagyl yet, so I can't really tell you a definate of what is going to happen, but I was told that the herxes get bad before you get better. The meds.are killing the bacteria and it's working. I'm

going to be getting the IV soon and I was told I would get worse, before better. It really stinks, just hang in there and know your not alone. Alot of people all over have lyme and co-infections.

Thanks Atheana,
Im glad ur not having too bad a reaction though it sounds like you ve got plenty of other symptoms to keep you busy;) my pain levels are finally coming down but im not sure when ill take Flagyl again, im almost scared to take anymore. I think ur plan of pulsing it is a really good idea though cant imagine being able to take it full-time!

Hi Windmill,

I had exactly the same reaction on flagyl. Felt so cr*p had to stop after 6 days on 750 mg. Its the only clear herx I have ever had.

I am glad I did it though. It gives me some good info to give my LLMD when I meet him for the first time next month.

I think it would do wonders if I was on IV or Bicillin at the time to mop them up as they bust out.

I'd say this is on the cards for me in the future once the Bart is dealt with.

I didn't know whether to reply on this thread or your other one, but flagyl is really good for breaking up the cyst form of the spirochete.

That is why you had such a bad herx. Keep this in mind later when you are ready to go off abx. It's always good to end with flagyl to make sure you've gotten rid of all residual cysts.

As for the c.diff you mentioned in your other thread, c.diff can be very hard to get rid of and very serious.

Do not let it get the upperhand. If you have to, you can take vancomycin for it.

Also, get on some good probiotics which include s.boulardi. One abx which contains it is NuFerm's Wholefood Probiotics.

That is alot of strong ABX for you in such a short time.

Stay well hydrate to the point of having to use the bathroom about every couple hours.

Also make sure your doing the #2 atleast twice a day if not, Miralax or Citrucel are your friend.

Small doses of benadrly and alieve help as well.

Hold on for the ride.

thanks guys I really do appreciate the replies, i think when i wrote this thread the flagyl was really messing with my brain, it made me feel very anxious, teary and depressed which is not my usual state at all. im feeling better now in that sense and after some cramps (c diff i think) this morning i decided that getting back on the flagyl is the most important thing right now and staying on it no matter what. (i totally agree with you lymetutu about not letting it get the upper hand, i was procrastinating there but not anymore!) im going to try and do ten days worth and hope for the best. this week though when the pain wore off i felt the best ive felt in about 6 years so i cant say the overall effect has been bad:) thanks everyone for ur advice, it really helps not to feel so alone making all these decisions!
