did I just make a big mistake after taking 2 weeks off of abx?
my stomach was going nuts so i took a break... however i also seem to be having a return of symptoms.
i was on a low dose of amoxi for 3 months prior to now and have had lyme since Aug of 2007 (i think).
I ramping up my amoxi now to a full dose of 2 grams a day... fun!
however, just wondering if that 2 week break could really cause a relapse... i thought this was a slow growing bacteria!
thanks, christine

No, you didn't. Simply return to your protocol as instructed by your LLMD, or whichever practioner you've been working with.
Breaks are actually useful- depending on the antibiotic. A harsh Herxheimer reaction is of no value to anyone, as it can do more damage if left uncontrolled, so breaks are useful in that respect as well.

I mentioned my break to my LLMD but he didn't seem too concerned... I guess he figures I'll go back into it if I feel I need to... and I did... boy do I feel silly... I was trying to convince him that I didn't have lyme.

This is a good question.
I am supposed to be taking a 3-4 week break from antibiotics instructed by a hematologist and my LLMD agreed that 3-4 weeks would be okay, but I'm not so sure.
This LLMD I don't trust 100% and am finding a new one. So I feel like I'm stuck, not sure where to go or what to do. I don't feel good about taking this long of a break without abx but don't know how good of an idea it is to ignore what the hematologist said about taking a break.
And it doesn't help when you wake up this morning very off balance while walking and walking into things and having double vision and haven't had this since the first time you got sick and were undiagnosed. So not sure what that means or what to do!!!!

Disturbed, let me know who you're seeing/having trouble with. Also, do you have access to some good LLMD's or would you like a list to help you?

MB - I tried to PM you, but your mailbox is full, so I'll post it here:
I have a list and know who I'm going to see next.
The LLMD I'm having problems with is Dr. G, in Maryland/DC area. He won't treat me for Babs (with Mepron or Malarone) without a positive test even though I have obvious babs symptoms and herxed for 4 weeks and kept on herxing on Bactrim/Biaxin combo. When I got off it, I would feel fine. Got back on it, and had more obvious babs herxing.
So I'm in a very big rut now because I saw a hematologist who wants me off abx for 3-4 weeks and my LLMD said it would be fine. I would like to know WHY he thinks it's fine. I don't feel it is... I called him but not sure if he'll call me back this weekend. I really wish he would at least prescribe Malarone, but he said others would think him crazy to prescribe Mepron or others to someone who tested negative for Babs.
Pretty worried right now especially since I'm feeling really crappy today and I've been off all abx for about a week now.

No, a two week break is meaningless... Bb grows very slowly.
It's my understanding that if your symptoms start returning after a short break from abx, that can suggest a co-infection.
I would put this in your symptom journal, and consider it a new piece of information in your treatment. It's unlikely that a 2-week break would be damaging--maybe a mini-setback. But it can provide you with a new piece of diagnostic data.
So don't fret about what you've done, but just us the info as part of what you're going to do.
Best to you, Viva

I went on "abx holidays" during my 18-month Lyme treatment (6-years-ago) all of the time.
This was suggested by my LLMD. Sometimes your gut needs a rest. 2 weeks in nothing! No worries.
