Bumping up for help.

I would only try vanco as a last resort given it is the strongest antibiotic we have (yet).

Hugs,

Vancomycin hydrochloride is administered by slow IV infusion for the treatment of systemic infections. Vancomycin is very irritating to tissue and must not be given IM. Vancomycin is not active against gram-negative bacteria, fungi, or yeast.

Borrelia burgdorferi is a Gram-negative spirochete bacteria that is well known as the causative agent of Lyme disease.

its for bartonella mostly (speculation)

and it does come in IM form, so someone must use it like that.

im pretty sure it has some action against lyme, altho which strains im not sure of.

it is quickly becoming a drug that many llmds are wanting to use.

I don't understand why it is being used against bartonella or borrelia when it clearly states that Vanco is not effective against gram-negative bacteria. Bartonella is a gram-negative bacteria. Maybe BLO is gram positive and that is what the LLMDs are gambling on?

Does Vancomycin really have an effect against Bartonella?

My daughter is seeing one of the top LLMDs in the country here in NY, she's on IV Vancomycin---For Lyme Disease.

Her LLMD has told us there is no interaction between Vancomycin and Bartonella or Babesiosis, etc. That he is aware of.

I wasn't aware it came in IM form either. Interesting.
