Just wondered if anyone knows if oil of oregano is safe with bartonella? The article by Dr Kessler of california below mentions it is effective for numerous conditions...including lyme disease. I am concerned as bartonella is AEROBIC bacteria and oil of oregano works by oxygenation?? Thanks Lisa

How to Treat Infections Using Oil of Oregano

This wonderful herb, oregano, is great for treating Candida infections, psoriasis, eczema, respiratory and viral conditions. Studies have shown that oil of oregano is effective against fungal infections and works better, with no side effects, than Nystatin which is a powerful antifungal drug with possible severe side effects. There have also been studies using oil of oregano to kill airborne molds as well as influenza A or avian influenza.

In hepatitis C it was found that an extremely concentrated form of oil of oregano killed the virus without injuring the liver and normalized values of liver enzymes in blood tests. What's so great about oil of oregano versus medications designed to treat viruses, is that there are no harmful effects on the liver or other organs of the body.

The organism that can cause ulcers, H. pylori, can also be eradicated using oil of oregano. Also, oregano combined with several other natural ingredients in a powerful formula, can be effective against winter viruses and bacterial infections in bone.

The active ingredient in oil of oregano is oxygen! Each molecule of oil has oxygen bound to it with a co-valently bound hydrogen. When the oxygenated compound (oil of oregano) strikes water in a bacteria or blood, the hydrogen is released and you then have an aggressive oxidizing agent which destroys the pathogen. It also has a dual effect of being an antioxidant as well. It even has a more powerful rating on the antioxidant scale than blueberries.

In order for oil of oregano to be effective in eliminating infections, you may need to take it very frequently such as every 30 minutes. If you have a virus that is making copies of itself every 5 minutes, you may need to take oil of oregano every 15 minutes at 3 capsules at a time. The more oil of oregano you take, the sooner the infection goes away. In herpes infections, oil of oregano causes the virus to explode and shatter as seen in electron microscopy. Oregano also kills tuberculosis, E. coli, salmonella, pseudomonas, Candida albicans, and some parasites such as tapeworms and giardia. In high doses it will kill cryptosporidium.

For children, if you give them one gel cap of oil of oregano a day, you will decrease the incidence of respiratory infections by 90%. It is a good emergency medicine because it can sterilize a wound by opening a capsule and applying the oil topically.

For treating Lyme's disease, it is recommended to take 9 capsules a day; for chronic fatigue 9 capsules a day are also recommended. This dosage should be continued for up to 6 months. Chronic and difficult conditions may require 3 capsules 2 times a day until improvement is noticed.

Cases of psoriasis have shown improvement with doses ranging from 12 to 24 capsules a day and a good acidophilus supplement at night. This has resolved two-thirds of the cases.

By combining oil of oregano with the oils of cinnamon, cumin, and sage in a capsule, a very effective formula has been shown to get into the lymph system and bloodstream to eradicate very deep seated infections in the sinuses. It has also been shown to kill the avian influenza twice as fast as just the pure oil of oregano. This special formula can only be ordered by a physician who is trained in natural medicine. Those physicians should e-mail: [email protected] for more information on obtaining this formula.

In this country the biggest mimic of disease is fungal infections. This has confused the medical profession for years. When people walk into the doctor's office with an asthma attack, they may have a fungal infection. Chronic sinus infections can also have their root in fungal and mold conditions. Fungal infections can also be the cause of childhood earaches. As you can see, many common conditions are caused from fungal infections.

Many of us have digestive difficulties, bloating and bowel irregularities and are even diagnosed with diverticulitis. These conditions can be caused by mucous membrane Candidiasis which is also a fungal problem. In my experience, endometriosis has its roots from the same fungal cause as well as PMS.

You may ask why this is such a huge problem for so many people. It is epidemic because our society eats tons of sugar and uses a lot of antibiotics that set the stage or the ``terrain'' of our body for these organisms to thrive.

There are many companies that make oil of oregano but not all of them are good. I use oregano from Designs for Health because I know it is safe and effective. There is a cream called Zolvex that is very useful for skin conditions mentioned in this article. For those of you who read my article on garlic (allicidin), it can be combined with the oil of oregano for eliminating fungal/yeast problems in the gut.

In conclusion, oil of oregano can be a safe and effective treatment for many infections and is also beneficial taken preventatively. If you have any of the conditions mentioned above, you may want to consider oil of oregano.

I've taken it before under the direction of an ND. It cleared sinus infections and early pneumonia symptoms. Very strong stuff. Can't remember the doses I had to take but I had to use several bottles for one infection.

One thing I hated was the smell and taste of the oregano lingered with me all day. The stuff was that strong.

I also took it for Lyme and Co's later on in combo with other herbs and supplements. Again, I don't remember the doses. It was under the direction of an LL ND. The herbs did not stop the progression of the infections. I had to be referred to an LLMD for antibiotics.

I take it 3 times a day and I'm currently treating Bartonella.

I think it has helped me stay clear of yeast and keeps my sinuses clear. I love being able to breath in the morning.

Is it something we can become immune to? It says on the bottle I have (gaia) not to take it more than 2-4 wks maximum.

It seems like there is very little info on this oil of oregano at high does like 9/12 caps a day. Indeed that would be well over 150 dollars a month alone- and I doubt anyone has really tried 9/12 caps for lyme-- so we don't really have any reports of success?? hmmm.

There are a lot of medications with limits on the label, for instance Prilosec. If your LLMD has you on it and is monitoring your health, then by all means stay on it longer.

I've been on it for a year and I don't see me stopping it any time soon.

The dentist who did my root canals (yes, I know, no-no) has his son on oil of oregano for his allergies.
